Transformers are the largest, most expensive, and highly critical components of most utility substations. To ensure a long, useful service life, a power transformer and its ancillary components must be tested regularly for incipient failure modes. Traditionally, performing these diagnostic tests is time-consuming and requires a sizeable number of test connections and lead changes. Fortunately, OMICRON’s new 3-Phase transformer test set, TESTRANO 600, takes transformer testing to a whole new level by expediting the transformer testing process.

Significantly Reduces Test Time
Due to TESTRANO 600’s true 3-phase injection method, measurements can be performed on all three phases of the transformer simultaneously. This allows the user to complete the testing process in approximately one-third of the time relative to a single-phase injection instrument. In addition, TESTRANO 600 automatically operates the LTC, which further decreases the total test time and helps reduce user-error.

Of note, with the combination of the 3-phase injection method and automatic LTC control features, the Transformer Turns-Ratio (TTR) test can be performed on all LTC positions (e.g. from 16R-16L) of a transformer in less than ten minutes.

One-Time Test Connection
Due to its one-time test connection concept, TESTRANO 600 minimizes the number of test connections and lead changes required to perform conventional transformer diagnostic tests. Once the test connections are made, the Transformer Turns-Ratio (TTR), DC Winding Resistance, and Demagnetization tests can be performed successively, on all three phases of the transformer, without changing the leads. With fewer lead changes, TESTRANO 600 is fast, easy-to-use, and helps reduce user-error.

Also, by significantly reducing the amount of lead changes, TESTRANO 600 requires fewer trips up and down the transformer. Thus, making the transformer testing process safer for equipment operators.

All-in-One Solution
TESTRANO 600 is an “all-in-one” transformer testing solution, which replaces two or three conventional transformer test sets. The transformer diagnostic tests that can be performed by the TESTRANO 600 include,

• Power Factor (Overall, Bushings, and Surge Arresters)
• Exciting Current
• Transformer Turns-Ratio (TTR)
• Leakage Reactance
• DC Winding Resistance
• Core Demagnetization

By integrating these diagnostic tests into one test system, equipment operators have fewer pieces of hardware to learn, transport, and maintain.

Primary Test Manager (PTM)
TESTRANO 600 can be controlled using OMICRON’s Primary Test Manager (PTM) software, which guides the user through the entire testing process. Once the user enters the nameplate information of the transformer, PTM creates a tailored test plan, which includes,

• Connection Diagrams
• Automatic Assessment of Test Results
• Trending of Test Data
• Fully Customizable Test Report

In addition, the PTM software controls several other pieces of OMICRON equipment, including the CPC 100, FRANEO 800 (SFRA), DIRANA (DFR), and CIBANO 500. By integrating multiple pieces of equipment into one software platform, OMICRON has streamlined the maintenance testing process.

Additionally, equipment operators may opt to control the TESTRANO 600 via the touchscreen on the front panel.
