Power Engineer for Large Load Integration provides engineering support and analysis for the integration of large flexible loads into the ERCOT System. Reviews interconnection studies for large loads and interfaces with Transmission Service Providers to ensure compliance with ERCOT and NERC requirements. Performs regular and ad-hoc analyses of large load consumption behaviors and their impact on the reliability of the ERCOT interconnection. Develop appropriate tools, displays, policies and procedures to ensure reliable integration of large loads. Serves as a subject matter expert on large load-related topics to ERCOT management and other ERCOT teams.
JOB DUTIES
- Evaluates large load interconnection studies for accuracy and compliance with ERCOT and NERC requirements
- May perform power flow studies to assess the reliability of large load interconnection requests
- Communicates ERCOT requirements to Transmission Service Providers and entities wishing to interconnect large loads in ERCOT
- Performs regular and ad-hoc analyses of large load behavior and impacts on ERCOT markets and real-time reliability
- Participates in cross-functional teams to ensure large loads are fully integrated into ERCOT models and systems
- Gains knowledge of relevant market rules and departmental procedures
- Develops, enhances, and maintains tools and reports for ERCOT stakeholders that improve visibility and understanding of large load activity
- Develops and sustains a high-level understanding of ERCOT's competitive energy markets and their relationship to large load incentives and behavior
- Works with senior engineers and management to propose and develop revisions to ERCOT protocols and guides that enhance the reliability of large loads in the ERCOT system
- Supports staff representing ERCOT in technical committees and subcommittees
- May provide presentations and participate in stakeholder meetings with ERCOT personnel and Market Participants
- May provide training on large load topics to ERCOT management and teams
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- Level 1 Engineer: No experience required in excess of degree requirements
- Level 2 Engineer: A minimum 1-year related work experience in excess of degree requirements
- Level 3 Engineer: A minimum 3-years related work experience in excess of degree requirements
Salary and level will be based on overall experience as determined by ERCOT.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- Experience performing and evaluating power flow studies in transmission or distribution systems
- Ability to read and understand electrical one lines and drawings
- Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint experience
- Strong communication skills and ability to take initiative on tasks
- Experience with Python, Seeq, PI, and/or Jira
- Experience developing situational awareness tools and/or coding
- Modeling experience in the power industry
- Heavy data analysis experience
- Ability to work cross functionally with other departments.
- Experience with PSSE or Powerworld
EDUCATION
- Bachelor's Degree: Engineering or related field (Required)
- or a combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge to a major in such fields is required
