JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Design Technical Engineer/Officer. 

Reporting to the Manager, Design Engineering, you will provide specialized Electrical and Instrumentation & Control design engineering services across a diverse portfolio of nuclear projects. You will work closely with internal engineering, construction, project management, procurement, external vendors, EPC partners, equipment manufacturers, and regulatory stakeholders to drive projects from concept through design, installation, commissioning, and closeout.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Provide electrical and instrumentation & control design engineering services, including the oversight of external design service providers development and review of technical specifications, design requirements, modification packages, calculations, and engineering reports.
  • Prepare and review key engineering deliverables such as single-line and three-line diagrams, wiring and cable block diagrams, routing layouts, control logic diagrams, equipment layouts, and technical reports.
  • Conduct and review engineering studies, assessments, and investigations to resolve standard and complex electrical and I&C technical issues across assigned projects.
  • Collaborate with internal project, construction, procurement, and engineering teams, as well as external EPC vendors and design service providers, to support effective project delivery.
  • Support all project phases, including installation planning, field execution, commissioning, closeout, and transition to operations.
  • Provide technical oversight of external engineering vendors to ensure design quality, compliance with Engineering Change Control (ECC) processes, and alignment with project requirements.
  • Deliver procurement and cross-functional technical support, including vendor evaluations, Factory Acceptance Test participation, test report reviews, and resolution of complex project challenges.
  • Apply strong electrical and I&C engineering expertise in areas such as arc flash studies, short-circuit analysis, ETAP, relay protection, switchgear design, inspection standards, and maintenance procedures to support successful project execution.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A four-year bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or instrumentation & control engineering.
  • Minimum of 4 years of related engineering experience.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical and instrumentation & control design principles.
  • Experience preparing or reviewing technical specifications, design packages, engineering calculations, reports, and modification documentation.
  • Familiarity with engineering change control processes and quality expectations in complex industrial or nuclear environments.
  • Experience supporting procurement, construction, commissioning, and closeout activities.
  • The ability to provide technical oversight of external engineering vendors and EPC partners.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • A proactive approach to solving complex technical problems and supporting safe, effective project delivery.
  • Candidate must be a fully licensed engineer in the province of Ontario, or be eligible to be licensed in the Province of Ontario
