JOB SUMMARY:
The Engineer, Fuel Budget, Forecasting, & Hydro Optimization is accountable to research, develop and implement tasks, methodologies, and practices for the corporation. As a member of SaskPower's management team, this position is responsible for projecting water flow and reservoir management, assisting with and/or preparing technical studies, models, business cases, specifications, and forecasts. This position will develop hydrological projections, ensuring alignment with departmental and corporate strategic goals and objectives.
This position plays a key role in ensuring the optimal operation of SaskPower's hydroelectric generation facilities. As a member of the Fuel & Energy Management team, the role will also contribute to the adherence of regulatory and environmental constraints and requirements in hydro operations
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Learn and become familiar with assigned technical tasks, methodologies, and practices
- Develop and maintain models for projecting water flows and reservoir models, ensuring optimal generation facility operations
- Provide technical assistance for generation and system operations
- Data management and coding ability; develop and provide ongoing support for programs and models used to provide hydroelectric planning and operations
- Perform technical and economic analysis of alternative solutions for project business cases, and make recommendations on courses of action
- Conduct hydrological reviews and assessments to support planning and system operation initiatives
- Provide direction for construction and commissioning projects and initiatives
- Develop criteria, guidelines, standards, and new practices based upon codes, technologies, regulatory requirements, and methodologies
- Provide direction to technologists, technicians, consultants, and management staff
- Provide direction to staff, consultants and other external technical agencies as required
- Other related duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering in Civil, Environmental, Water Resources Engineering, or equivalent specialization in hydrology and water resources
- Eligible for membership in the Association of Professional Engineers of Saskatchewan (APEGS)
- Professional Engineering Designation - P. Eng. and relevant experience in a combination of the following engineering tasks: hydrological analysis, model development, flow forecasting and reservoir management, operations, and coordination of projects
- Demonstrated competency in engineering/industry standards, as well as internal processes and procedures
- Ability to mentor, coach, and support Engineers-In-Training
- Results oriented thinker, with the ability to manage and provide advice regarding complex and confidential issues with sensitivity and professionalism
- Ability to work and manage in a changing environment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent facilitation, project management and decision-making skills
- Ability to foster a culture focused on safety, innovation, and teamwork
- Demonstrated skill in SaskPower's Competencies
