The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer with a strong background in the technical design and execution of maintenance capital projects for Natural Gas Compression and/or Measurement facilities. The ideal candidate will have electrical design experience, along with excellent collaboration and communication skills. In this role, the engineer will provide mentorship to team members, develop and review system and equipment drawings, and evaluate contractor design packages to ensure alignment with project requirements. The position also involves interfacing with Engineering Service Providers (ESPs), supporting material procurement, and offering technical assistance during construction. Additionally, the engineer will contribute to the development and review of engineering standards, specifications, procedures, and tools that support the successful execution of engineering work.

What you'll do

  • Ensure all engineering activities comply with TC Energy's Practice of Engineering (POE) and relevant regulatory standards

  • Lead the engineering execution of maintenance capital projects for Natural Gas Compression and/or Measurement facilities, ensuring alignment with business objectives

  • Mentor and support the development of engineers, fostering technical growth, knowledge sharing, and alignment with TC Energy's engineering standards. Take a proactive role in maturing the engineering training program, contributing to structured onboarding, skill development pathways, and continuous learning initiatives that strengthen team capability and succession planning

  • Define detailed project scopes through site assessments and stakeholder engagement to determine optimal engineering solutions

  • Oversee the design development process, collaborating with internal teams and external partners to evaluate and approve high-quality design packages

  • Prepare comprehensive bidding documentation for Engineering Service Providers (ESPs), clearly outlining project requirements and deliverables

  • Review and assess third-party engineering proposals to support informed contract award decisions

  • Act as the primary technical liaison with ESPs, managing scope, schedule, and quality of deliverables throughout the project lifecycle

  • Administer and oversee engineering contracts, ensuring performance, compliance, and value delivery from ESPs

  • Champion innovative and cost-effective engineering solutions that meet technical, safety, and operational requirements

  • Lead and facilitate discipline-specific engineering reviews, ensuring stakeholder alignment and design integrity

  • Establish and coordinate Design Oversight Teams as needed, fostering effective collaboration and continuous improvement in design outcomes

  • Define and validate equipment design requirements, including layout optimization and installation planning

  • Perform equipment sizing verification and develop purchase specifications for a variety of facility components

  • Participate in HAZOP and design reviews, contributing technical insight to enhance safety and operability

  • Support material procurement by reviewing requisitions and ensuring alignment with engineering specifications

  • Provide on-site technical support during construction and commissioning, including timely resolution of RFIs

  • Execute project close-out activities, such as redline reviews, as-building, and data collection for preventive maintenance systems

  • Contribute to Root Cause Analyses, identifying technical issues and recommending corrective actions

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, leveraging lessons learned, non-conformance reports, and stakeholder feedback to enhance engineering practices

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution (or equivalent with relevant experience)

  • Minimum 10 years of progressive engineering experience in related roles

  • Registered, or eligible to register, with APEGA as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in good-standing

  • Solid understanding of natural gas pipeline and compressor station design, including applicable codes and standards (e.g., CSA Z662, ASME B31.3)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong background in Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls (EI&C) design within the energy infrastructure sector; automation experience

  • Proven ability to apply engineering principles, codes, and standards to solve problems and implement improvements

  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills; able to build effective working relationships across teams and stakeholders

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and manage competing demands in a collaborative team environment

  • Experience leading or adapting to change in dynamic work settings

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on practical, results-driven solutions
