The Opportunity
Reporting to the Director, Technical Services, we are seeking a Hydromechanical Engineer for the proposed Ontario Pump Storage (OPS) projects technical design.
Key Components:
- A hydroelectric pumped hydro energy storage facility

A 230kV transmission connection to Ontario's bulk transmission system.

1,000 MW of generation capacity to Ontario's electricity system.

Provide up to 12,800 MWh of energy storage capacity
This phase of the project will approve the Pre-FEED/FEL2 Engineering. Based on the conceptual design and cost and schedule estimates, the project owners will decide whether to proceed with the project.
Upon completion of FEL2, Project will issue a competitive RFP for FEL3 / EPCM services in September 2026.
Final Investment Decision (FID) planned for September 2028.

What you'll do

Reports to the Director of Engineering

Champion TC's commitment to integrity, safety, and respect

Managing engineering contractors' performance and establishing meaningful goals and metrics.

Planning and coordination of the external engineering contractors including Owners Engineering (OE) and Design Engineering Firm.

Technical scope development, defining owners' requirements and providing technical assurance on engineering deliverables.

Technical work pertains to design of hydromechanical systems (pump/turbine units), design of hydraulic conveyances, inlet/outlet systems, dams' safety assessments, flow assurance, assessment of risk.

Strategic prioritization of work, proactive planning.

Efficient coordination of activities, and clear communication

Working with Project Management to integrate technical aspect with execution strategies.

Manage internal and external stakeholders

Promote company standards and quality by ensuring accuracy of systems results

Prepare final report, summary of lessons learned, including issues, solutions, opportunities and recommendations for incorporation into future projects.

Support development of the engineering management plan that supports the project strategy and objectives.

Clearly defining detailed engineering scope/deliverables, resources, schedule, and cost.

Integrating with project services and supply chain management systems in the reporting of engineering progress, updates, and achievements.

Resolving commercial and technical issues during the engineering phase.
Minimum Qualifications:
-
Bachelor's degree in in Process, Mechanical or other relevant engineering or equivalent combination of training

15 or more years of relevant industry experience

Leader in promoting safe work practices and positive attitudes and behaviors

Ability to manage to short deadlines and multiple deliverables simultaneously

Familiarity with corporate business systems used for cost planning and control
