The Technician in Training position will be trained to achieve Operator Qualifications (OQs) in order to take on formal" Technician I" responsibilities for customer service field activities and distribution systems and facilities. Training period is paid, and training program is typically 6 - 12 month to achieve qualifications to be promoted to Technician I. The speed in which these qualifications are met are dependent on current skillset and learning curve.
Accountabilities
- Performs reads of residential, commercial and industrial gas meters. Records readings for billing purposes. Observes and reports all abnormal, dangerous and/or damaged conditions pertaining to gas meters and adjacent areas.
- Disconnects, Paint Meters, Service and Construction Helper, Atmospheric Corrosion Survey & remedial action
- Change Index and meter glass, Complete electronic orders & Damage Prevention locates
- Installing, Maintain, Replacing and Remove meters and regulators
- Residential and small commercial service activation
- Replacing service valves, Minor appliance repair and adjustments
- Complete all operator qualification and safety related training
Education and Experience
- High school Diploma / GED
- Prior utility, construction, or other maintenance experience such as HVAC or E/M system experience a plus
- Requires valid driver's license in accordance with Company standards
- During employment training period, must obtain and maintain minimum Operator Qualifications (OQs) and classroom training for position and any other required OQs and classroom training or certifications prior to being placed in this position on a permanent basis
