JOB OVERVIEW
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Electrical & Control Technician- Small Modular Reactor (SMR).
Reporting to the Director SMR Plant Maintenance, this position is responsible for protecting people, facilities, and operations by responding to emergency situations, supporting fire prevention programs, and ensuring radiation protection and contamination control standards are maintained. In this position, you will play a key role in maintaining and repairing critical plant equipment, supporting safe and reliable operations, leading maintenance activities, providing technical expertise, training, and mentorship to support both day-to-day work and outage activities.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Respond to fire, medical, hazardous materials, rescue, and workplace safety emergencies, helping protect people, facilities, and operations.
- Inspect, test, operate, and maintain emergency response equipment, including firefighting systems, fire extinguishers, and Hazmat equipment.
- Support fire prevention programs by administering hot work permits, managing fire-related documentation, and ensuring compliance with safety standards.
- Perform radiation protection and contamination control activities, including decontamination procedures and maintaining clean, safe work environments.
- Install, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair electrical, control, protection, telecommunications, and testing equipment used in generating stations.
- Conduct testing and equipment assessments to support system reliability, operational performance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide technical expertise by developing procedures, supporting projects, resolving operational issues, and contributing to maintenance planning activities.
- Support safe and reliable plant operations through training and mentoring, contractor oversight, cross-functional maintenance work, and outage support on rotating shifts.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Grade 12 diploma (or equivalent) plus a Diploma in Instrumentation and Control Engineering Technology (or related discipline), or a valid 309A Construction and Maintenance Electrician Red Seal certification.
- Valid Ontario Class G driver's license (or equivalent) with the ability to travel and operate vehicles to support operational requirements.
- Strong foundation in electrical, instrumentation, controls, mechanical, industrial, or other related technical disciplines.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, technical excellence, and continuous learning in a dynamic industrial environment.
- Ability to work shifts including days, evenings, and nights.
