Job Description:
Provide timely, practical legal advice to internal stakeholders and senior leaders across a broad range of operational and strategic matters.
Act as a trusted legal advisor, supporting decision-making while balancing legal risk with business objectives.
Partner with cross-functional teams to support corporate initiatives, projects, and transactions.
Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements and legal documents.
Partner with internal teams to provide legal guidance with regulatory, privacy, procurement, and contract teams.
Ensure legal advice aligns with corporate strategy, operational goals, and regulatory requirements.
Manage and coordinate external counsel to ensure effective delivery, quality, and cost control.
Translate complex legal concepts into clear, concise, and actionable guidance for non-legal stakeholders.
Monitor legal and regulatory developments and proactively advise the business on emerging risks and opportunities.
Support the development and continuous improvement of legal processes, templates, and governance practices.
Maintain high standards of professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical conduct in all interactions.
Participate in special projects and contribute to broader departmental and organizational initiatives.
Qualifications:
Law degree and membership within Alberta or provincial equivalent.
Minimum three years of experience in corporate, commercial, or regulatory law.
Experience in privacy law, information technology procurement, or regulated environments is considered an asset.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess complex legal matters and provide practical solutions.
Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders and provide clear, business-oriented legal advice.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present to diverse audiences.
Proven ability to build effective relationships and collaborate across teams and organizational levels.
Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Solid business acumen with an understanding of corporate operations and risk management.
