JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Systems Engineer (Technical Engineer/Officer) focused on Nuclear Sustainability Services (NSS) Performance Engineering.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager at the Darlington Waste Management Facility, this position is accountable for low-level and intermediate waste characterization, with primary emphasis on the system health of the dry fuel container processing equipment and associated building systems. 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Working with a multi-disciplined team of engineering and technical specialists to support the operation of the various mechanical and electrical systems
  • Developing and executing projects in compliance with the industry's demanding set of regulations and standards
  • Maintaining written documented processes and procedures to reflect improved operating methods and additions to all supported systems
  • Co-ordinate the clarification of specification requirements, and arrange for necessary changes and/or coordinate technical work as required in several major work areas
  • Maintain and/or update operating and other specified department/divisional procedures
  • Supporting various aspects of systems engineering including Dry Storage Containers (DSC), DSC Transporter, Vacuum Skids, Fire Protection, DSC Welding, IAEA Nuclear Safeguards, HVAC, Security, Building Architectural Envelope, Cranes, Electrical systems, Dry Storage Modules (DSM), Intermediate level waste from Retube Component Storage Area (RCSA) and Pickering Component Storage Structure (PCSS), Dry Storage Overpacks (DSO), Retube Waste Storage Building (RWSB) and interfacing systems from Generating station.
  • Support the low-level and intermediate waste characterization program for the generating stations, Refurb and DNNP
  • Provide technical evaluations and advice, solve problems and coordinate technical work as required, in several major work areas, in support of the commissioning, operation and maintenance of the facilities

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4 year Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in an engineering role, ideally within a nuclear facility
  • Systems Engineering experience (mechanical or electrical systems)
  • Experience in managing regulatory and licensing issues, ideally within nuclear safety context or other regulated industry
  • Ideal candidates will have significant work experience in a Nuclear Engineering Environment (strong asset).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to develop and deliver reports, briefings, and project plans
  • Good organizational and leadership skills, and to be a self-starter who can work both independently and in a team environment that is dedicated to engineering excellence and best practices
  • Strong in understanding, executing, and following governance and procedures with a questioning and analytical attitude/approach under minimal required supervision
  • Experience and ability as a team player to understand and manage the interrelationships of various internal and external groups in order to facilitate objectives and ensure projects satisfy stakeholder requirements
  • Candidate must be a fully licensed engineer in the Province of Ontario, or be eligible to be licensed in the Province of Ontario
