Description
Responsible to oversee and effectively execute on the organizational training requirements and education programs (safety, technical and apprentice) and act as the Work Methods, subject matter expert for specific trade group (PSC/MM, DST, PLT-CPLP, PLT-CPCP). The incumbent will mentor apprentices, providing structured support and oversight for apprentice advancement and oversee the seamless integration of the newly graduating apprentices to operations. They will liaise with third party vendors, including colleges and universities, and relevant government stakeholders, to enable that the current and future workforce staffing and talent needs of the organization are met. As the subject matter expert representing their trade, they will lead the identification and implementation of associated continual improvement to established procedures and work practices, new tools and equipment to improve worker safety, performance and/or experience.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversees and leads the design and execution (internally and externally delivered), follow-up and continual improvement for organizational training associated apprentice development as well as safety and technical training.
- Makes safe work practices a focus through all training programs, leveraging industry best practices in training execution.
- Acts as a subject matter expert to support the design of compliance, apprentice, safety and technical training programs incorporating new tools, procedures and upskilling requirements.
- Manages the overall apprentice experience. Develops and revises training materials, field assignments, documents and course curricula consistent with legislative compliance, current industry best practice, and policy and procedures.
- Liaises with educational institutions and outside agencies (for example: partner utilities, IHSA, MEARIE, Skills Ontario, Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development, etc.) to validate education materials meet established requirements.
- Manages apprentice instructors and support staff to deliver the apprentice training plan (apprentices, as well as safety and technical training).
- Confirms instructors meet safety expectations, managing performance through regular feedback, inspections, incident investigation analysis including taking corrective action, where required through mentoring, educating, and coaching.
- Monitors performance and progress of apprentices, communication with Operations Leaders as well as reviewing and providing input to apprentice performance.
- Supports Operations with management of apprentice progress and any issues/risks that impede employees from successfully completing their apprenticeship programs.
- Collaborates in the creation of development plans for apprentices when required.
- Maintains ongoing communication with apprentices during their operational placements to verify they are completing the required task exposures.
- Administers the assessments of apprentice skill achievement at key milestones of the programs.
- Leads work methods/continual improvement activities for tools, equipment and operational processes though research, benchmarking, internal and external networking, industry information sharing, Learning Teams, JACs and JHSCs to identify and implement opportunities to improve worker safety, performance and/or experience.
- Leads projects/initiatives to enhance or improve the processes within the training program framework including modifications to existing or implementation of new systems or processes aligned to organizational strategy and purpose or human resources and safety strategy and plans.
- Maintains and acts as subject matter expert with respect to apprentice training record/dashboard as well as historical records and management and internal and external certifications and standards.
- Participates in internal and external audits of training system and records (as required). Provides follow-up support to close identified training gaps and reduce training risks.
- Maintains records of product trials, project and communication plans associated with Work Methods activities.
