The Senior Financial Analyst III plays a key role in supporting budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting processes. This position delivers actionable financial insights through detailed analysis, financial modeling, and scenario planning to support strategic decision-making.
As a highly visible and high-impact role, you will partner closely with business leaders, providing data-driven recommendations, identifying risks and opportunities, and driving financial performance across the organization. The ideal candidate is analytical, proactive, and comfortable engaging with senior stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
Accountabilities
Financial Planning & Analysis:
- Actively support forecasting activities, including monthly forecasts and quarterly updates, and provide recommendations to enhance forecast accuracy and process efficiency.
- Monitor financial performance by analyzing data, identifying trends, and maintaining short- and long-term financial models.
- Perform variance analysis, investigate key drivers, and communicate insights in a clear, concise, and actionable manner.
- Deliver timely and accurate financial insights and report to Senior Management to support informed decision-making.
- Act as a key liaison between Operations, Utility Leads, and cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on financial assumptions and outcomes.
- Provide analytical and data support for rate cases, including preparation of analyses and responses to regulatory data requests.
- Lead the planning, forecasting, and monitoring of capital budgets, and tracking spending against budgets.
- Manage revenue planning and forecasting, analyze key drivers, and provide actionable insights to support decision-making and regulatory compliance.
- Support the annual budgeting process and periodic budget reviews to ensure alignment with strategic objectives.
- Collaborate closely with Treasury, Tax, Accounting, and Corporate FP&A to align planning assumptions and ensure consistency across stakeholders.
Other Responsibilities:
- Assist in maintaining and developing company-wide KPIs
- Take initiative to develop an in-depth understanding of FP&A and reporting systems in order to find ways to improve processes and address any control gaps.
- Provide input and guidance on strategic financial issues
- Develop various management presentations as required
- Other tasks as assigned
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree or greater (e.g. Business, Accounting, Economics, Commerce, etc.)
- An accounting designation such as CPA (CA, CMA, CGA) is an asset
- 5 years + of experience in accounting and/or finance roles
- Strong knowledge of principles of accounting, finance and management accounting required
- Ability to create reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals and effectively present information and respond to questions from internal and external groups
- Strong skills in the areas of analytics/modeling and spreadsheet/database creation and maintenance through formal training and/or experience
- Prior experience with SAP SAC is an asset
- Experience working in the utilities, energy and/or other regulated industries is an asset
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail required with a desire to learn
- Must have excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs including; Excel (advanced level required), PowerPoint and Word
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work as a team member with peers and management to help drive continuous improvement
