As part of the Office of General Counsel, the Real Estate Paralegal provides support to attorneys representing PPL Corporation and its subsidiaries before courts and on property-related issues, regulatory compliance, risk management, and project development. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the growth and reliability of essential utility infrastructure, building specialized expertise at the intersection of real estate law and the utility industry. General duties include, but are not limited to, legal research, fact investigation, preparation of draft legal documents, document management, and assisting attorneys in mitigating legal risk exposure to PPL Corporation and its subsidiaries by ensuring compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements. This position focuses primarily on supporting the Office of General Counsel with real estate issues, but candidates should have the ability to work across a broad range of areas.
Responsibilities
- Perform legal research and prepare memoranda of findings, primarily related to real estate issues.
- Review and summarize extensive legal documents, including property records, surveys, and title searches.
- Provide support on land and right-of-way acquisition, siting, licensing, and permitting.
- Draft and review real estate agreements and documents.
- Track and communicate key real-estate transaction dates to stakeholders.
- Assist with real estate transactions and effective case management of complex litigation.
- Work collaboratively with various PPL employees at all levels.
- Act as a liaison with state and federal agencies, and outside counsel.
- Assist with in administrative and financial functions.
- Maintain physical presence in the office/on-site to engage in face-to-face interaction and coordination of work among direct reports and co-workers.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited school with strong academic credentials
Paralegal Certificate from an ABA approved program or another paralegal program acceptable to the company
A minimum of 2 years of legal experience in a paralegal or related position, with a specialization in relevant real estate law
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience in legal research and writing, and problem analysis
Experience searching property records in government offices and online
Familiarity with Westlaw or LexisNexis
Strong case management skills
Strong computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office products such as Excel, Outlook and Word
Proven ability to exercise good judgment and excellent organizational skills
Capability to multitask, inquire, analyze and problem-solve issues
