Job Summary
An Instrument & Control/Electric Technician ensures the safe, reliable, compliant and economical generation of electricity by inspecting and maintaining combined cycle power plant instrument and control and electrical equipment during routine, abnormal or emergency conditions.
Job Responsibilities
- Perform instrument & control and electrical system maintenance on all equipment and auxiliary systems
- Maintain, test, repair, calibrate and troubleshoot generating station equipment and auxiliary equipment including, but not limited to, continuous emission monitoring (CEMS), distributed control systems (DCS), PLCs, batteries, motors, breakers, drives, electric and pneumatic actuators, and any other plant instrumentation
- Maintain equipment ensuring that equipment is maintained in accordance with established targets for plant reliability, availability, output, efficiency, safety and regulatory compliance
- Install instrumentation & control and electrical design changes to upgrade plant operations or to meet new requirements
- Troubleshoot and repair instrument & control and electrical hardware and software malfunctions
- Troubleshoot protective relay and high voltage electrical system problems and assist in repairs
- Provide assistance to other crafts and operations as required and perform minor mechanical maintenance activities
- Assist in planning of instrument & control and electrical maintenance work and planning and scheduling of outage activities
- Assist in review of CEMs data
- As assigned, assume the sponsor role in certain work activities, providing direction to other WPS employees and/or contractors
- Assist in determining the adequacy and accuracy of lockout/tagout boundaries and perform de-energization verifications (DEVs) of isolated equipment
- Perform certain warehouse functions as required
- Perform other related and incidental duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate Degree in Electric Power Technology, Industrial Electrical Maintenance, Electromechanical Technology, Automation Engineering Technology, Utilities Engineering Technology, Instrumentation or equivalent Armed Forces training. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- 5 years technical experience OR currently at Journeyman level in the Electrical and/or Instrument or IC&E trade
- Valid Drivers License or ability to obtain one
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in both instrument and electrical trades preferred
