The O&M Technician - 3 is highly skilled and responsible for the day-to-day operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and safety of various power plants and equipment, including those of solar, storage, and/or distributed energy resource (DER) sites. The O&M Technician - 3 is a fully qualified operator, capable of operating all assigned power plant systems via the plant operating control systems. The role also includes leadership duties, such as supervising other technicians on shift and managing operational disruptions. The O&M Technician - 3 serves as a first responder and initial Incident Commander to operational events and/or disruptions in the power plant and resolves issues within the Technician's technical skillset. In doing so, the O&M Technician - 3 provides safety and environmental stewardship, ensures compliance with all applicable Federal and State regulations and plant procedures, and keeps all equipment in optimum operating condition. The O&M Technician - 3 develops and participates in continuous improvement of operating procedures for plant equipment to ensure consistent and safe operation. The employee is capable of administrative, mechanical, instrumentation and control, and/or electrical maintenance skills.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Operates, performs regular preventive maintenance, troubleshoots, tests and makes rounds taking regular readings as required to maximize asset value.
- Leads and support any O&M Technician - Operations 1 and 2 staff on shift.
- Coordinates plant operation with Energy Supply and Market Operations team.
- Controls plant operation including startups and shutdowns.
- Serves as a first responder and initial Incident Commander to operational events and/or disruptions in the power plant and resolves issues within the Technician's technical skillset.
- Documents more complex issues and submits Work Notifications through the electronic Work Management System.
- Works with and assists Maintenance Technicians to resolve more complex plant issues.
- Uses Distributed Controls Systems (DCS) to operate power plant equipment, including water treatment systems, turbine controls, solar-storage controls, DER controls, and Balance of Plant equipment.
- Administers the Lock-out/ Tag-out process for the power plant.
- Manages critical work processes including Safe Work Permitting, Hot Work and Confined Space permitting.
- Executes and develops critical Standard Operating Procedures to ensure consistent and safe operation of power plant equipment
- Manages contractors performing work.
- Participates in operator training and continuing training.
- Manages preventive maintenance tasks and records preventive maintenance activities.
- Trains and develops other employees in performing preventive maintenance and routine equipment service activities.
- Practices situational leadership, safety and environmental stewardship.
- Leads equipment or system problem identification and recommends solutions.
- Ensures that appropriate safety procedures are followed.
- Overtime is required for Plant Outages and PTO shift coverage.
- Technicians will be assigned shift working a modified Dupont rotation schedule.
- Performs other duties and tasks as directed by leadership.
Minimum Skills
Minimum Knowledge and Abilities
Previous work experience as a power plant operator or maintenance technician, or equivalent experience in an industrial setting such as chemical plant, refinery, renewable energy sites, etc.
Must pass Mechanical, Reading and Math Aptitude test to be considered for an interview.
Strong aptitude in math, mechanical/electrical ability, and production control.
Must have the ability to read drawings, understand procedures and instructions required for the competent support of power plant operations and maintenance.
Must be able to work in a high-performance work environment and respond to callouts or overtime with minimal supervision.
Must have excellent communication and team skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook and other PC based applications.

Dependable, reliable and predictable attendance is required.
Valid Class C Texas Driver's License
Preferred Qualifications
- Maintenance skills including, electrical, mechanical or instrumentation are preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in a power, steam generation, or other industrial facility is desirable.
