The Senior Mechanical Engineer assist in the development, design, and testing of new products or systems. They work with a team of other engineers, scientist and technicians on moderately complex projects to ensure that their projects meet all relevant safety standards and specifications. They test mechanical and electromechanical products and systems and are responsible for the mechanical testing and maintenance of products in production, as well as testing prototypes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Design, control, and implement mechanical systems and products and serve as the primary point of contact with clients for all mechanical engineering project matters
- Manage the development and implementation of mechanical systems
- Designing, maintaining, implementing, or improving mechanical instruments, facilities, components, equipment products, or systems for industrial, commercial, or domestic purposes
- Performing a wide range of engineering tasks by operating computer-assisted design or engineering software and equipment
- Ensuring that installation and operations conform to standards and customer requirements by preparing mechanical systems specifications, technical drawings, or topographical maps
- Investigate and resolve project issues in a timely manner
- Establishing construction, manufacturing, or installation standards or specifications by performing a wide range of detailed calculations
- Writing reports and compiling data regarding existing and potential mechanical engineering projects and studies and provide technical support to other departments and personnel as needed
- Preparing specifications for purchases of mechanical equipment and materials and estimating material, labor, or construction costs for budget preparation
- Collaborate with customers, coworkers, and others to discuss existing or potential mechanical engineering products or projects and monitor project progress and budget, and prepare reports for upper management
- Ensuring compliance with specifications, codes, or customer requirements by directing or coordinating installation, manufacturing, construction, maintenance, documentation, support, or testing activities
- Other duties as assigned or may be necessary

Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program with four (4) or more years of relevant experience
- [OR] Bachelor's Degree Engineering from a non-ABET accredited program plus a Professional Engineering license with four (4) or more years of relevant experience
- [OR] Bachelor's Degree Engineering from a non-ABET accredited program plus a Professional Engineering license with four (4) or more years of relevant experience
- Valid State of Michigan Driver's License as travel is required for this role
Preferred Experience
- Pipeline engineering/utility experience
- Understanding of 49 CFR Part 192, the Michigan Gas Safety Standards and ASME B31.8
