Internship Overview: The Talen Energy Engineering Internship is a comprehensive work-study program designed to provide college students with hands-on experience in both power plant operations and office settings. This program is ideal for students looking to explore potential career paths in engineering, gain real-world experience, and develop practical skills that complement their academic learning.

As a Talen Energy Intern, You Will:

  • Contribute to the achievement of departmental goals through special projects.

  • Engage with senior executives and gain insights into the energy industry.

  • Participate in impactful community service projects.

Internship Roles and Responsibilities: Interns will support various Engineering activities (Nuclear, Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical) at the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station. Project assignments will vary by department and may involve tasks such as:

  • Nuclear Engineering:

    • Perform nuclear fuel management analysis.

    • Develop performance indicators for nuclear risk assessment.

    • Create parameter displays for the plant process computer system.

    • Automate the development of Control Rod Movement Sheets.

  • Mechanical and Electrical Engineering:

    • Assist with plant modifications and engineering work requests.

    • Conduct calculations, analysis, and specifications supporting plant upgrades.

    • Update plant electrical system analysis to incorporate change mechanisms and optimize system capabilities.

    • Generate user interface pages for monitoring equipment performance.

  • Thermal Performance and Project Management:

    • Participate in a "Missing Megawatts and Thermal Performance" project, including steam system walkdowns and the use of thermal monitoring software.

    • Collaborate on a pilot project to develop radiation-resistant instruments for wireless applications.

    • Investigate thermal losses, estimate megawatt impacts, and develop solution strategies.

Candidate Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in an accredited college or university program as an undergraduate or graduate student in Engineering.

  • Must be a full-time student (minimum 12 semester hours).

  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

  • Must be 18 years of age or older and able to provide an official transcript and other required documentation.

  • Eligible to work in the U.S. in accordance with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) regulations.
