The System Protection Engineer will be responsible for supporting the Luminant's Generation fleet protection systems which includes, but is not limited to, generator differential, transformer differential, generator breaker failure protection, transmission line, plant-switchyard interface, and electric auxiliary system protective relaying.
The System Protection Engineer position can work independently to identify and perform tasks as required to meet objectives. The position will establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Level of position will be determined by education and years of applicable experience. Primary work location may be based at any Luminant site or corporate office.
Key Roles & Responsibilities Working independently, the incumbent will:
Identifies and performs task as required to meet objectives
Lead interpretation and analysis of complex issues
Coordinates assigned projects, studies and initiatives through completion
Comply with safety policy and procedures to ensure a safe working environment
Prepare and present reports including recommendations to resolve complex issues
Participate in and on occasion lead special project and committees
Lead complex problem solving efforts
Subject matter expert for electrical engineering discipline and equipment. Develops and interprets system engineering standards.
Knowledge of ETAP (short circuit, load flow, stability, arc flash, and relay coordination) and SEL software (analysis and relay setting). Working knowledge in test equipment software is a plus.
In depth knowledge of analog and digital based generator voltage regulators and power system stabilizers
In depth knowledge of electro-mechanical relays as well as SEL/GE microprocessor relays, SEL communication processors (2032 & 3530) and disturbance monitoring equipment.
Demonstrates extensive knowledge of electrical equipment and systems, electrical machinery design and operations.
Develops design basis and management of change documentaiton for protection system design and setting changes.
Understanding of power industry electrical equipment protection techniques, NEC, and industrial electrical standards
In depth knowledge of NERC standards PRC-004, PRC-005, PRC-019, PRC-024, PRC-025, PRC-026 and PRC-027.
Provide technical guidance to the Luminant or external Protection & Control technicians or individual plants
Open to Engineer Associate to Principal engineer, grade dependent upon experience.
