This role is a great opportunity to join an energized team developing and deploying best practices, driving standardization and continuous improvement across our energy plants. The VP-East Asset Management is responsible for maximizing the profitability of Talen's fossil power generation assets located in PJM by achieving key objectives. As a member of Talen's Fossil asset management team, this position reports to the Chief Fossil Officer, and under general guidance, plans, organizes, integrates, fiscally controls, directs, administers, reviews, and evaluates the activities, operations, and services of the company's PJM fossil assets.
The VP-East Asset Management recommends strategic plans and ensures that execution of short and long-term goals and objectives are consistent with Talen's strategic plan, vision and values. With responsibility for the overall profit and loss (P&L) of Talen's PJM fossil assets, this role manages the day-to-day business of the assets and fosters close collaboration between the plant operations team, Talen's commercial team, which manages Talen's short- and long-term market operations, and other departments.
What will you own?
- Maintain a high-performing and safety-focused plant operations team at each asset by providing exemplary day-to-day leadership in the areas of Safety and Environmental, Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and Outage Planning while ensuring continued implementation of management systems and practices.

Develop and achieve tactical and strategic goals for Talen's PJM fossil assets, including:

Creation of annual business plans for the assets, including combined capital and operating budgets and periodic planned overhauls, and facilitate execution of those business plans.

Meet established regulatory standards.
-
Control of resources and policy formation in the area of responsibility, with decisions guided by resource availability and functional objectives.
-
Shape the assets' core capabilities and continuous improvement strategy.
-
Establish quantitative performance standards for key objectives and implement processes to achieve such standards.

Team development, including knowledge sharing, culture shaping and challenging the team for alternate solutions to plant issues.
-

Ensure operational readiness and daily optimization of the assets through close coordination with Talen's commercial team regarding deviations or adjustments to facility availability.

Manage facility contractual agreements and relationships related to fuel and electrical interconnections, water procurement and delivery, and property leases, including oversight of existing agreements and negotiation of new agreements as necessary.

Accountable for the performance of the PJM fossil assets benchmarked against established facility and business metrics.

Work with other departments/teams to analyze how contractual, market, and regulatory changes will affect Talen's PJM fossil assets or business, formulate sound recommendations on how to address, and advise executive leadership accordingly.

Develop and implement initiatives/projects to improve facility and/or overall business profitability.

Work with other departments to support Talen's growth initiatives.

Support accurate and timely financial reporting by working in conjunction with Talen's finance, accounting/settlements, and risk teams.

Works with Talen's regulatory and external affairs team to:

Manage relationships between Talen and state and local governments and other stakeholders.

Participate in relevant stakeholder processes as necessary to support Talen's business objectives.

Ensure that all requisite filings or other submittals are made on time.

Participates in professional and community organizations on behalf of the Company.
What you will have?
-
Extensive experience in asset management and/or operation and maintenance of large fossil-fueled power plants, including at least 10 years in progressively responsible facility-level and/or corporate management position(s), with a minimum of 5 years an asset management role. Prefer at least 15 years of experience, with at least 7 years in an asset management role.

Proven success in maximizing the cash flow of large fossil-fueled power generation assets, including managing facility contractual agreements and relationships, overseeing plant operations, and commercializing assets.

Demonstrated effectiveness when leading and interfacing with plant personnel (both union and non-union), other departments, and executive leadership on plant-related matters including safety, environmental, regulatory, operations, maintenance, engineering, outage planning and execution, human resources, and supply chain.

Good understanding of PJM energy and capacity markets and their regulatory framework.

Proficient understanding of business aspects of power generation with the ability to:

Analyze and make sound recommendations on complex commercial, management, and administrative issues.

Present proposals and recommendations clearly, logically, and persuasively in meetings.

Bachelor's Degree in a relevant engineering, business administration or closely related field. MBA or other advanced business-related degree preferred.

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and technical computer applications, particularly the use of spreadsheets and project scheduling/tracking tools.

Ability to travel up to 75% to various locations as needed to support business objectives, oversee assets, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
