Summary:
Provide leadership and strategic direction for transmission line and substation construction, maintenance, field operations, and fleet management. Responsible to achieve organizational goals related to safety, productivity and reliability while managing resources effectively and ensuring operational excellence.

Total Rewards:

A typical starting range for this position is $189,000 - $270,000 annually.  Responsibilities: Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead and direct transmission services continuous improvement efforts, effectively monitoring and reengineering core processes for improvement to ensure continued reliability in a safe and efficient environment for Great River Energy (GRE) and its' member-owners.
  • Collaborate with transmission vice president and directors to establish business direction and identify strategic goals for the transmission division.
  • Identify metrics, create and communicate transmission services dashboard to report progress towards operational excellence to the transmission senior leadership team, member-owners, and applicable external stakeholders.
  • Partner with leadership to identify and implement process improvements in the areas of transmission facility construction and maintenance, transmission outage response and restoration, vehicle fleet procurement and maintenance, and field operations and equipment, including power system protection, metering infrastructure, substation apparatus, telecommunication and networks, high voltage direct current (HVDC) facilities.
  • Conduct consistent and periodic visits to transmission service centers to engage with employees, gather feedback, and foster a collaborative environment that encourages open communication and strengthens team engagement.
  • Ensure transmission and substation construction best practices are employed in contractor selection, bidding practices, management of budget and scope changes by establishing clear guidelines and providing oversight.
  • Responsible for ensuring operational regulatory compliance, safe and reliable field operations of the transmission system and proof of compliance to regulatory agencies such as North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), Midwest Reliability Organization (MRO), Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO), etc.
  • Function as the central point of contact for the transmission VP in emergency situations such as severe storm restoration and significant member-owner outage situations.
  • Work with leadership to resolve member-owner issues related to transmission services. Regularly reaches out to member-owners to build relationships, proactively identifying concerns and ensuring timely resolution and customer satisfaction. Regularly update transmission senior leadership team on transmission service issues and progress of resolution.
  • Apply industry and company best practices to promote world class operating procedures\processes. Empower knowledge sharing and identification of business improvements.
  • Provide leadership for continued support of condition assessment and reliability centered maintenance and capital replacement activities. Develop, approve and manage maintenance resource budget and support the capital resource budget allocated to transmission services.
  • Develop and maintain a business plan that provides for necessary workforce resources to accomplish the transmission services' objectives.
  • Direct the effective and efficient use of union and non-union resources with emphasis on safety, reliability and member-owners satisfaction and compliance. Involved with union negotiations specific to department rules for all areas of responsibility supported by represented employees.

Qualifications: Knowledge typically acquired through a through a bachelor's degree in engineering, management operations, or a related field is required. Master's degree in a relevant area of study is preferred. A minimum of ten (10) years of experience with progressive responsibilities in the electric utilities industry with an emphasis on transmission operations experience. Experience within one or more of the following areas: system operations, transmission construction and maintenance and field services is strongly preferred. Five (5) plus years of formal leadership experience is required. A combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge may be considered.
