Are you passionate about the energy industry and eager to make a lasting impact on grid reliability and bulk power markets? Southwest Power Pool (SPP) is looking for a dynamic and knowledgeable Regulatory Affairs Manager to join our team. In this crucial role, you will be at the forefront of monitoring and managing regulatory proceedings within the SPP Balancing Authority, ensuring that SPP remains ahead of evolving state and federal regulations that affect the energy sector.

As the Regulatory Affairs Manager, you will have the opportunity to drive meaningful change in the energy landscape by collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders, working on high-profile regulatory matters, and helping shape the strategic direction of the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor & Analyze Regulatory Proceedings: Stay ahead of state and federal regulatory dockets, particularly those impacting SPP's mission in grid reliability and bulk power markets.
  • Strategic Recommendations: Independently lead the analysis and review of state proceedings and industry developments, providing key recommendations on regulatory policies regarding reliability and resource adequacy.
  • Collaboration & Coordination: Partner with SPP's legal team to support state and federal filings and work closely with subject matter experts (SMEs) to ensure timely, effective responses to regulatory issues.
  • Representation & Advocacy: Represent SPP in industry forums, meetings with regulatory bodies, and other stakeholder groups, ensuring SPP's positions are well communicated.
  • Cross-Entity Interaction: Monitor and assess activities within neighboring regulatory entities, adjusting strategies to maintain SPP's strategic objectives.
  • Team Leadership: Oversee assigned team members, set clear performance expectations, offer guidance, conduct evaluations, and foster professional growth to ensure alignment with SPP's goals and mission.
  • Strategic Contributions: Provide valuable input into company-wide strategy, ensuring the organization's regulatory objectives align with broader goals.
  • Special Projects & Support: Manage special projects as needed and serve as a backup to other regulatory management as necessary.
  • Culture & Values: Embody and promote SPP's culture, mission, and core values, ensuring compliance with internal policies and procedures.

To be successful as the Regulatory Affairs Manager, we're looking for:

  • Bachelor in a related field of study or Juris Doctor Degree
  • Ten (10) Years of relevant state, federal, or related government experience or
  • Ten (10) Years of interaction with regulatory bodies related to federal transmission policy or
  • The combination of the experience above that is equal to a minimum of at least 10 years
  • Specific knowledge of federal and state regulatory policies and procedures
  • Excellent working relationships with regulatory bodies
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to recognize technical and policy organizational problems and determine short-term corrections, develop long-term solutions, and promote efficiency
  • Organize and balance their own and others' workloads and have the judgment necessary to set personal and staff priorities in instances of insufficient resources
  • Ability to function with constantly changing and multiple priorities and have excellent organizational skills
  • Understanding of and compliance with SPP Policies and Procedures OR
  • Understanding of, compliance with, and enforcement of SPP Policies and Procedures

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in a related field
