The Electric Distribution Operations and Construction department has a Service Worker II vacancy at our Springfield Office.
Responsibilities will include a full range of line construction and maintenance work on the electrical distribution systems. This position will involve working with both energized and de-energized electrical systems while troubleshooting, constructing, and repairing underground electrical lines. Most of the work is performed outdoors in all types of weather conditions and is considered "heavy labor".
Responsibilities include:
Must be a self-starter with the ability to work alone 80% of the time while still being part of a local team.
Perform functions included but not limited to responding to underground outages, locating and repairing cable faults, replacing fuses with appropriate hot sticks, performing minimal switching, removing trees from overhead conductors, and replacing streetlight and watchlight eyes and bulbs.
Patrol lines on foot and with all-terrain vehicles (ATV's) for long distances at a time.
Operate and/or drive heavy equipment for long distances to construct and maintain distribution system.
Work in inclement weather as needed or service dictates.
Work in adverse environments such as swamps, wetlands, coastal sounds, lakes, rivers and mountains.
Work outdoors 95% on a normal day.
Due to weight limits on equipment, weight restriction of 290 lbs. applies.
Starting rate for this position is 44.52/hr
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
This position requires a minimum of 3 years' experience in underground electrical line work (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications).
Graduate of a recognized Lineman Development program preferred.
Ability to obtain a valid class A CDL by the end of the 5th month of employment
Must be available for call out, overtime availability (including extended workday and holidays), and have ability to work rotating 10-hour shifts (Eligible for premium pay for applicable overtime hours)
The ability to work aloft and lift up to 75 lbs.
The ability to work off a ladder
Ability to become Switching qualified
Operate forklift, aerial lifts, power driven equipment, pneumatic equipment, hydraulic equipment, etc.
Must be able to meet and maintain applicable NERC/FERC requirements.
Ability to communicate effectively, have good teamwork skills and able to understand, comprehend and follow directions in the workplace
Must possess basic computer skills
*The selected individual must be able to assess at a competency level 3 in the Dominion Underground Electric Line Worker Development program in underground energized line work.
Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Being the first responder to power outages
Repair and/or maintenance of URD Electrical facilities (i.e. outage response and troubleshooting of customer outages)
Work closely with the Regional Operations Centers within the Dominion service territory
Knowledge of Safety processes and practices within the industrial electrical distribution industry
