The successful candidates will join the Strategic Operations Planning team within the System Operations Center and help achieve the company's long-term and strategic plan by analyzing the transmission system over the upcoming current to 5-year timeframe. The transmission system is rapidly changing due to construction, renewable power source integration, increased electrification, and data center growth. To keep up with these changes, Dominion Energy will use load-flow modeling that can incorporate load growth forecasts, planned system topology changes and needed construction timelines to ensure the system continues to remain n-1 secure during peak load and outage seasons.
This position has the following responsibilities:
- Perform, review and analyze detailed reliability, power flow and stability studies on the Electric Transmission (ET) System to minimize risk and maintain system Reliability.
- Use expert engineering knowledge and principles to schedule, coordinate, and/or devise new approaches and/or alternatives for complex equipment outages on the ET System while not jeopardizing system reliability.
- Sequence and coordinate long-term (planned) Electric Transmission (ET) equipment outages by undertaking a thorough review of requested outages to understand scope-of-work, clearances requested, switching required, and potential impact to the grid.
- Assist in creating outage schedules that aim for the maximum number of outages to be scheduled while maintaining n-1 security and achieving Electric Transmission's business priorities.
- Verify study results and contingency issues with PJM and/or ET Planning when needed, and effectively communicate concerns and mitigation plans to impacted stakeholders.
- Communicate with Long-Term Ops Planning engineers to ensure a well-communicated turnover of studied projects and planned outage seasons.
- Lead in the development new engineering tools to help the operational planning teams achieve their goals (including enhancing and expanding the anode platform).
- Provide engineering support, expertise, and leadership to fellow team members.
- Perform other duties as requested or assigned.
