Job Summary
The Nuclear Fuel Engineer (Reactor Engineer) reports to Energy Harbor's (a Vistra Company) corporate office in Akron, OH and performs all manner of core design and reactor physics support calculations and analyses.The selected candidate may work out of the headquarters in Akron, Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station in Oak Harbor, OH or Beaver Valley Nuclear Power Plant in Shippingport, PA.
This role frequently works independently to identify and perform tasks as required to meet company objectives and supports the gathering and analysis of information necessary for initiatives or to solve complex problems.
The position will develop and maintain effective working relationships with others including external to the company.
Job Description
Key Accountabilities:
- Managing reload core design projects
- Act as the primary contact between the plant and fuel vendor for fuel and safety analysis issues.
- Performing core physics calculations using the Studsvik CMS software.
- Providing core physics data support to Reactor Engineering, Operations, Training, and other applicable groups at site as well as the Fuel Procurement and Spent Fuel Management groups
- Initiating vendor analyses and performing verification of the results of vendor-supplied reload analyses
- Providing support for vendor design verifications and quality audits
- Involved in spent fuel criticality analyses, strategic fuel cycle planning, decay heat calculations, and reactor pressure vessel fluence calculations.
- Identifies and performs task as required to meet objectives
- Lead interpretation and analysis of complex issues
- Coordinates assigned projects, studies and initiatives through completion
- Comply with safety policy and procedures to ensure a safe working environment
- Prepare and present reports including recommendations to resolve complex issues
- Participate in and on occasion lead special project and committees including external organizations
- Lead complex problem - solving efforts
Education, Experience, and Skill Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required (preferably Nuclear Engineering).
- Proven performance in the areas of reactor core design and core physics calculations is desirable.
- Demonstrated written and oral communication abilities.
- A strong analytical ability is required.
- Ability to perform computer programming is desirable.
- Studsvik Scandpower CMS software experience considered a plus.
- Demonstrated experience performing project management considered a plus
- Previous relevant job experience strongly preferred
