The Grid Analytics Specialist Co-op position is designed to provide students with hands-on experience in growing, enhancing, and scaling work that the Grid Analytics and Data Modernization team is leading. The successful candidate will support the team in identifying, cataloging, analyzing, interpreting, managing, and enhancing data/information systems used throughout the Asset Strategy & Operations (ASO) division.
The Grid Analytics Specialist will also support the team with the development of innovative solutions and introduce advanced analytical tools and methodologies that will help Alectra improve system planning, operations, and reliability.
Responsibilities:
To perform the following tasks to contribute to the overall success of the department:
- Write and maintain scripts in common languages (e.g., Python, R, SQL etc.) to automate data extraction, transformation, and analysis processes.
- Perform data validation, quality assurance checks, and troubleshooting of data-related issues.
- Collaborate with vendors and Alectra personnel to identify testing requirements and develop automated solutions for efficient and effective software validation.
- Develop and execute automated test scripts to validate the functionality and performance of grid analytics software and tools.
- Collaborate and work with various stakeholders across Alectra to introduce advanced analytical tools, including but not limited to, Integrated Network Management (INM), Automated Interconnections, and system-wide Dynamic Capacity Maps.
- Collaborate with ASO personnel to document requirements and develop dashboard, reports, and other visualizations that provide actionable insights for decision making.
- Support the continuous improvement of data management processes and procedures.
- Participate in cross-functional teams to support various Grid Modernization projects.
- Assist in the preparation of status reports, technical reports, data flow diagrams, system architecture/network diagrams, presentations, and various other documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
Skills & Qualifications/Program:
- Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of electrical distribution systems and power distribution concepts is preferred.
- Strong analytical skills with experience using data analysis tools/languages such as Python, R, SQL. etc.
- Familiarity with database management and data visualization tools (e.g., SQL, Power BI, Tableau, Alteryx etc.). Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and tools.
