What you'll do
Project Development & Origination
- Identify and assess opportunities for developing distributed solar, storage, natural gas, and microgrid projects across North America.
- Lead site selection and early development phases, including land control, feasibility assessments, interconnection screening, and preliminary system design.
- Analyze customer, utility, and system needs for both BTM and FTM projects, focusing on resiliency, capacity, and decarbonization.
Technical, Commercial & Regulatory Evaluation
- Oversee preliminary engineering and technology selection with internal teams and external consultants.
- Develop and sustain project business cases, financial models, and internal approval documentation.
- Assist in commercial structuring, including PPAs, energy services agreements, capacity contracts, and utility/customer-partnered models.
- Manage permitting, environmental assessment, Indigenous engagement, and regulatory approvals in Canada in coordination with internal experts.
Project Management & Execution
- Provide leadership in project management throughout development and execution stages.
- Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, risk registers, and stage-gate deliverables aligned with corporate standards.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams across engineering, construction, legal, finance, procurement, regulatory, and operations.
- Ensure project execution governance, including detailed design, construction, commissioning, and handover to operations, meeting scope, cost, and schedule goals.
- Prepare regular project status reports for senior management and governance committees.
Stakeholder & Utility Interface
- Cultivate relationships with customers, landowners, utilities, municipalities, regulators, Indigenous communities, and other stakeholders.
- Lead utility interconnection processes and coordinate technical studies and agreements.
- Represent the organization in discussions with partners, customers, and regulatory bodies.
Portfolio & Continuous Improvement
- Monitor market trends, regulatory changes, incentive programs, and technology advancements relevant to distributed energy and microgrids.
- Contribute to portfolio planning, standardization of development practices, and enhancement of project delivery processes.

Who you are
Education & Technical Knowledge
- Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Business, Planning, or related field.
- Post-graduate degree or MBA is advantageous.
- Professional engineering designation (P.Eng.) or project management certification (e.g., PMP) is beneficial.
Specialized Knowledge
- Comprehensive understanding of distributed solar, battery storage, natural gas generation, and microgrid systems.
- In-depth knowledge of Ontario electrical distribution systems and the regulatory environment.
- Familiarity with electricity markets, energy project permitting, and interconnection requirements in Canada.
Experience
- At least 10 years in greenfield energy project development, preferably within a utility, IPP, or large infrastructure organization.
- Experience with both BTM and FTM project structures.
- Proven track record in business development, including lead conversion, proposal development, and customer relationship management.
- Demonstrated experience in advancing projects from origination through construction to operations in a leading role.
- Experience in navigating municipal, provincial, and federal regulatory approvals for new projects.
- Proficient in managing schedules, budgets, risks, and governance approvals in a structured corporate environment.
Skills/Abilities/Competencies
- Expertise in managing complex, multi-disciplinary projects using formal project management methodologies.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presenting to diverse audiences.
- Sound judgment and ability to balance technical, commercial, regulatory, and stakeholder considerations.
- Collaborative, detail-oriented, and comfortable working within established processes and controls.
- Experience with simulation tools like PVSyst is an asset.
- Valid driver's license.
- Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Project, PowerPoint, and Word.
