For System Planning: This position will be responsible for engineering design studies using a computer-based model of the natural gas distribution piping system. The position will work in a team environment to make recommendations on pipe sizing for new business opportunities, pipe replacements, pipe abandonments, pipe reinforcements, and relocations of gas mains.
Duties and Responsibilities
Performs system studies of the Company's various pressure networks
Evaluate and recommend appropriate size of gas mains and services
Analyzes a multitude of requests for various applications, including those pertaining to elevated delivery pressure, bypass sizing, load addition, economic development, and Gas Interruption Procedures
Assists in the development and maintenance of strategic replacement models
Analyzes winter and summer settings for low pressure regulator stations, including the over-pressurization characteristics study mandated by the Public Service Commission for the low-pressure system
Studies, initiates, and conducts winter gauge surveys and low-pressure regulator station correlation field tests through continuous communication with other departments
Maintains system models to include updates from GIS, maps and field book notes, load zone revisions, develops loading data from load count, residential and commercial projections, and evaluates and correlates results from studies
Participates in occasional Gas Control setting on a peak day to gain perspective on system hydraulics.
Learns Spire systems including, Synergi, Maximo, Oracle, ESRI ArcGIS
Schedules and prioritize projects that are going to construction or have a higher priority due to the Company's requirements
Ensures effective utilization of the Company's Geographical Information System (GIS) and asset management system to manage all capital construction design work
Ensures the use of the Company's standards and applicable State and Federal codes and regulations for all design work
Ensures that all work is performed in a safe, compliant, and cost-effective manner to maximize system integrity, reliability, and value to customers
All other duties as assigned by Manager.

Required Education (certifications, licenses)
Bachelor's degree in engineering from ABET accredited school required (an engineering degree in technoloty does not qualify).
Engineering in Training certificate preferred
Required knowledge, skill and abilities
Minimum 0-2 years' engineering experience in natural gas or similar industries
Knowledge of project management techniques and proven ability to lead across functional teams / work across functional areas to achieve mutual goals
Strong verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with both internal peers, staff of acquired entities and third-party service providers
Strong computer skills, including proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite and use of Spire's systems such as Maximo, OBIEE, Oracle, Sharepoint, Asana
Strong interpersonal skills with the proven ability to build and establish rapport with a diverse array of people.
