The Transmission Engineer position holds the responsibility for the safe, reliable, and economic round-the-clock operation of the electric transmission system. Duties include engineering responsibilities for the design, construction, maintenance, and operation activities of our electric transmission lines, producing design packages for electric transmission capital projects required to ultimately provide service and increased reliability to our customers, generating project estimates & schedules, participating in root cause analyses, studying encroachment cases, developing & managing contracts for labor and materials, making site visits to monitor construction activities, and other engineering activities as they arise.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Plans, designs, and oversees construction of electric transmission lines
- Analyzes existing transmission lines for conductor upgrades and communications cable additions
- Researches and studies new technologies, methods, and equipment
- Drafts, finalizes, approves, accumulates and issues drawings, material lists, manuals and schedules for construction and revises transmission records to reflect as-built conditions
- Coordinates, schedules and plans transmission project activities and provides technical support
- Specifies, requisitions, and approves material for transmission projects
- Develops, approves, and maintains material specifications and construction standards
- Develops design processes and procedures
- Provides transmission project budget estimates and monthly spending projections
- Writes construction contracts and manages contractors on projects
- Estimates quantities and cost of materials, equipment, or labor to determine project feasibility
- Uses SAP to determine project costs, order material and monitor project progress
- Participates in routing & siting projects
- Supports COSA Civic Projects where transmission towers and/or lines are in conflict
- Reviews encroachment requests for customers and developers
- Performs other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree from an accredited university
- Experience with Bentley MicroStation software
- Experience with PLS-CADD software
