The Engineer position holds the responsibility for the safe, reliable, and economic round-the-clock operation of the generation, electric transmission, and distribution systems. Duties include Engineering responsibilities for the design, construction, maintenance, and operation activities of our power plants, transmission lines, substations, distribution system, gas systems, control centers and others. These Engineering duties may include continuous monitoring and balancing of energy flow and responding to system disturbances, along with all generation, distribution, and transmission activities that provide electric and gas services to customers.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Manages interconnection projects such as large load, generation, transmission, & wholesale customer.
- Understands Distribution Planning and Transmission Planning guidelines, principles, and processes.
- Understands ERCOT policies and protocols pertaining to large load and generation interconnection.
- Participates in ERCOT working group if necessary.
- Effectively communicate planning requirements and planning analysis results to customers, developers, & internal stakeholders
- Assists and provide input in the development of interconnection contracts/agreements.
- Maintains contract/agreements managed by Grid Transformation & Planning
- Works closely with Business Economic & Development and engineering areas.
- Develops & maintains reporting tools and provide periodic updates to leadership.
- Make frequent independent decisions and recommendations that affect the section, department, and/or division.
- Identify gaps in current interconnection process and initiate process improvement to close the gaps.
- Attends seminars, continuing education opportunities for professional development
- Evaluates and recommends new standards, products, and/or services
- May include limited supervisory responsibilities, including lower level engineers
- Participates in and provides input to area budget
- Actively works within financial objectives set by management
- Discipline expert to mentor and develop employees
- Signs and seals required own engineering work and engineering work by staff under his/her oversight
- Perform other duties assigned.
Minimum Skills
Minimum Knowledge and Abilities
Texas Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
Possesses and applies a broad knowledge of principles, practices and procedures.
Demonstrated mastery of engineering discipline skills.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Package, including word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation software, electronic mail and scheduling.
