Job Summary
This dynamic position involves operating bulk material handling equipment to seamlessly transfer customer products between railcars, barges, and other transport modes. You'll work both indoors and outdoors, experiencing a variety of weather conditions, from the ever-changing climate of the Midwest to the elements of dirt, dust, and grease. Expect to stay active with long periods on your feet. Safety is a priority, as workplace hazards are present, requiring strict adherence to safety protocols. What you will do-
Operates bulk material handling equipment, such as conveyors, barge moving equipment, etc. Keeps equipment lubricated and takes care of minor maintenance needs.

Secures barges at all docks and provides draft readings of barges.

Assists with removal and placement of barge lids, operates skid loader inside barge and operates barge loading spout.

Operates train unloading equipment, switches railcars, walks railcars prior to movement and aligns track switches.

Applies railcar hand brakes, connects railcar air hoses, changes railcar air hoses, provides point protection for shoving movements. Checks and cleans tracks of obstructions that could cause derailment.

Inspects safety appliances prior to mounting/moving railcars. Uses proper radio communications, keeps material handling equipment neat, clean and operating properly.

Ensures that all major and auxiliary equipment are operating properly. Assists in maintaining railway tracks. Performs preventative and facility maintenance work when not operating.

Spots and loads or unloads railcars, barges and/or trucks.

Proficient in operating water truck and skid loader.

Performs all work according to established procedures and safety practices.
Education Requirements

High School Diploma Required
Required Experience
-
Ability to operate bulk material handling equipment.

Ability to lift a minimum of 70 pounds and wear all safety equipment, including a respirator.

Ability to work in exposed high environments.
Preferred Experience
-
Experience with equipment such as forklifts, skid loaders, wheel loaders and cranes.

Experience with grain handling procedures and equipment.

Class A CDL
Other Requirements

Must possess a valid driver's license.
