Job Summary/Purpose
The purpose of this job is to serve in a leadership role in the Accounting Processes and Controls group, which performs a variety of key accounting functions. The job will entail leading system and process improvement initiatives and other projects, applying accounting standards and principles to financial transactions, performing accounting research and technical analysis, and communicating complex financial issues and results to members of senior management. The assignments will vary but will require leadership and strong analytical skills by effectively using knowledge of accounting theory and business processes and tools to identify and solve challenging issues.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
- Perform assignments requiring understanding and application of accounting principles, practices, policies, and concepts
- Use quantitative financial analyses to problem-solve
- Clearly articulate results of financial analyses to senior management
- Understand nature of specific accounting issues at hand and make recommendations for resolution while considering and evaluating all impacts and implications of the recommendations
- Understand system accounting of multiple systems and its impact to financial statements
- Work closely with IT to troubleshoot system issues when applicable
- Anticipates changes to team's processes based on corporate wide initiatives
- Takes initiative to develop, design, and implement efficient and effective internal controls
- Develops networks throughout Accounting and broader Entergy organization to leverage in resolution of issues
- Assist manager and department in managing multiple (and often competing) priorities and projects
- Works with manager to provide effective oversight of the team as well as play a significant role in the development, training, and mentoring of staff members
Minimum Requirements
Minimum education required of the position
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field or equivalent experience.
- Advanced degree preferred.
Minimum experience required of the position
- 5+ years of accounting-related work experience.
- Experience in a lead role on a project sub-team.
Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position
Knowledge:
- Proficient in the application of accounting controls and processes
- Utility Accounting knowledge and experience
- working knowledge of the FERC uniform system of accounts
- Advanced knowledge of Entergy business and processes
- Knowledge of Sarbanes Oxley requirements and testing in coordination with internal and external auditors
- Knowledge of Peoplesoft Financials is a plus
