JOB SUMMARY:
The employee in this classification, on assigned shift, performs a variety of tasks associated with the functionality of the Balancing and Transmission Operations or Distribution workstations, ensuring the optimum level of system reliability of the Bulk Electric or Distribution System. This position is also responsible for coordinating switching for planned and emergency maintenance as well as system restoration while ensuring an optimum level of supply is obtained from the distribution system.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Operate and monitor computerized switchboards and auxiliary equipment in electrical control centers to control the distribution and to regulate the flow of electrical power in the transmission or distribution network
Coordinate, schedule and direct generating station and substation power loads and line voltages to meet distribution demands during daily operations, system outages, repairs and importing or exporting of power
Monitor and visually inspect station instruments, meters and alarms to ensure transmission voltages and line loadings are within prescribed limits and to detect equipment failure, line disturbances and outages
Create and issue Standard Protection Code permits to electrical and mechanical maintenance personnel, assist maintenance and technical personnel to locate and isolate system problems, and assist during routine system testing
Complete and maintain station records, logs and reports
Adhere to applicable safety and environmental standards, regulations and corporate commitments
Participate in continuous educational and professional development, both internal and external and driver's licencing upgrades, as required by the position
Maintain a clean and orderly work area
Utilize SaskPower's computer operating environment as required by the position
Direct, coach, train, orient and work effectively with other staff
Other related duties, as assigned
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Degree in Electrical Engineering, Diploma in Electrical or Electronic Engineering Technology, Interprovincial Journeyed Electrician and a valid Saskatchewan Electrical Journeyperson Licence, Interprovincial Journeyperson Power Line Technician Certificate, Second Class Power Engineer's Certificate, or equivalent AND/OR;
System Operator Certificate, or equivalent AND/OR;
NERC certification as a Reliability Operator, or equivalent
Experience in related field
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing
Able and willing to follow established procedures and execute them in a professional manner
Possess the ability to make and implement sound decisions under emergent conditions
Ability to work in an enclosed environment and work
Ability to work 12 hour rotating shifts, 24/7/365 as required
Ability to cooperate and deal tactfully with others
