Description
This position will be involved in a diverse range of activities supporting management of NRG s Retail and Wholesale positions. This includes activities such as structured deal valuation, portfolio analysis and optimization, and power market fundamentals. This position offers a high degree of visibility at NRG's Princeton office and will work closely with the trade floor, regional asset management and asset development teams, and other key groups within the company.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, development, and implementation of algorithms and mathematical or statistical models intended to evaluate portfolio performance under varying market conditions and impact of hedge strategies.
  • Assist Structuring team in modeling energy assets and complex transactions including power generation, tolling transactions, load following/full requirements transactions, sales off of existing assets, asset acquisitions, renewable energy procurement, storage options, fuel transportation, and long-term fixed price energy purchases/sales by utilizing a variety of internal and external valuation models.
  • Create and disseminate fundamental analysis of the power and capacity markets in NRG's core markets
  • Work with the senior management to produce presentations for board meetings, earnings, investor meetings, or other similar events.

Position Requirements:

  • BS in Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Economics, Operations Research, Finance or related discipline.  A Master's degree is preferred.
  • Experience with designing, developing, and supporting complex analytical systems.
    • Must have database expertise and expertise with data extraction techniques utilizing SQL, Oracle, MatLab, Python, SAS, VB, or similar methods.
    • Must have expertise in automation techniques for data gathering and management.
    • Must have advanced knowledge of Excel in spreadsheets macros, custom functions, VBA, etc.
  • Two to five years of energy industry or energy consulting experience is required.
  • Experience with asset modeling via dispatch/production cost modeling a strong plus.
  • Experience in long term fundamental models such as Aurora, Prosym, or Promod a strong plus.
  • Excellent analytical and modeling skills, detail oriented and able to produce accurate work products.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills required.
  • Should be a self-starter, adaptive and versatile, able to work effectively in an active trading environment.
  • Quantitative or fundamentals analytics experience in the energy industry preferred
