The Manager will be responsible for leading, executing and overseeing the pricing and costing of retail gas, electricity, and other revenue streams for residential and commercial customers. This will include reviewing and creating acquisition and renewal campaigns operationally along with collecting historical usage, load profile analysis, cost component review and validation. This individual will provide market analysis with data, trends, strategies to stay competitive in the market.
While working as part of a team, the individual has a high degree of accountability and responsibility for the strategic direction and provide recommendations for the products and services that best fit the long-term strategy of the business unit. The individual should have in depth knowledge of the Canada energy market fundamentals and can critically evaluate, and model risk associated with costing various retail energy components. The individual will work closely with various groups in product development, portfolio management, forecasting and market operations located in Calgary, AB and Houston, TX. This role may have one direct report - Senior Associate. The individual will also interact with IT and drive the implementation of system and process migrations and improvement.
Other responsibilities include operational analysis, and other ad hoc financial analysis. The position requires strong data, financial and customer modelling and analytics experience, strong written and oral communication skills, and the ability to meet stringent and regular deadlines.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
The Manager is responsible for leading regional pricing and structuring for residential and commercial customers and provide market competitive analysis within the Canada Competitive Go to Market team:
- Provide daily transaction costing and structuring of retail gas and electricity products
- Support all sales channels by delivering timely and accurate transaction costs
- Review data, consumption pattern and usage exceptions and accurately assess risk and cost impact
- Monitor current market conditions to seek opportunities to maximize margins and minimize retail risk
- Review and analyze cost discrepancies based on market feedback
- Assist in the development of analyses and models based on complex energy market indicates and cost components
- Responsible for development and maintenance of pricing cost curves (Cost of Goods Sold) associated with all non-traded energy components including load following premiums (hourly, daily and monthly shaping and swing risk) and recovery of demand-based components such as transmission costs.
- Manage development of renewal offers and pricing
- Oversee creating acquisition and renewal campaigns operationally within internal system
- Develop segmentation and pricing strategies for retention campaign
- Oversee development of reporting dashboards and identify opportunities for improvement
- Manage integration of pricing into the system and QC process
- Deliver the gross margin and sales objectives while maintaining profitable retail transactions
- Provide market analysis with data, trends, strategies, and competition to stay competitive in the market
- Provide market and customer analysis to determine market segmentation and targeting for products
- Mine, manage and analyze large amounts of complex data
- Work across functions and channels to ensure a consistent, targeted customer pricing
- Drive NRG vision and values throughout the team
Education:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferably in mathematics, engineering, or another quantitative field
- MBA or CFA preferred
Minimum Requirements:
- Advanced financial modelling skills including developing driver based economic scenario modelling, NPV and ROE/ROI analysis.
- Proficient Excel modeling skills and PowerPoint required
- Proficiency in SQL database query and data management
- Experience with data visualization software preferred
- Experience and knowledge with quantitative modeling tools such as Python

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Minimum of 3+ years of experience in financial analysis
- Strong financial modelling including valuation modeling skills (DCF, ROI, etc.)
- Ability to handle multiple assignment on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy
- Ability to work independently and complete responsibilities with little supervision, yet work well in team-orientated culture
- Preferred experience with subscription-based businesses (retail energy, insurance, cable, internet, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ years of Energy experience
- Experience working in deregulated energy in Alberta
