Description
DESCRIPTION: Reporting to the Supervisor Field Scheduling, the Field Scheduler is responsible for the prioritization, bundling, and scheduling for the construction and asset management work of field resources and equipment. Evaluating availability, job requirements, work prioritization and competency to construct, maintain, and operate the electrical distribution system. The Field Scheduler is also responsible to ensure that the required third-party service providers have been coordinated to align with the efficient delivery of the work being executed. The Field Scheduler will lead communications frequently with various roles and departments to ensure that schedules are adhered to and updated as required.
Note: This position may be located in Red Deer or Olds.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but not limited to):
- Utilize the appropriate systems and guidelines to efficiently schedule all productive and non-wrench time for field resources.
- Maintain annual resource forecasts.
- Utilize appropriate systems and processes to schedule the information received in a work order package.
- Determine the urgency of work requests based on established expected delivery dates; prioritize, proactively schedule, and assign the resources, services, materials, and equipment.
- Proactively communicate with the required stakeholders if dates cannot be achieved. Resolve scheduling conflicts.
- Coordinate the scheduling of all resources, equipment, and third-party service providers required for the efficient execution of work.
- Customer contact, informing customers of scheduled start dates and any delays.
- Contact 3rd party resources as per the projects approvals or underground locates, including scheduling any required field visits.
- Receive, process, and respond to internal requests and inquiries related to resource scheduling.
- Operate and utilize systems/applications to monitor work requests and progress, manage exceptions, and ensure completions of work.
- Ensure all Construction Readiness is completed; first calls, material checks, PPO's, third party contractors, switching programs, hold offs, etc.
- Analyze schedules and identify when shift adjustments are required for field resources to meet job requirements and make recommendations.
- Actively lead communications with Crew Lead, Area Coordinator (Unit Price or Major Projects), Operations Lead, Dispatcher, and others to ensure schedules are met and incorporate any changes to the schedule as required.
- Schedule any follow-up activities or changes to the original work order, e.g., warranty checks, reclamation work.
- Consider safety, environmental and business priorities.
- Participate in the development and forecasting of project and maintenance plans.
- Perform other duties or participate on special projects as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of resourcing and scheduling best practices.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize and organize work effectively within tight time constraints.
- Strong customer service focus with the proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal staff and contractors.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a large team.
- Demonstrated ability to apply sound judgment in scheduling daily activities, resolving issues and evaluating possible solutions.
- Strong computer skills with advanced proficiency in common office tools, project planning and scheduling software.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Diploma in project management or engineering, plus a minimum 2 years' experience in resourcing and scheduling services for multiple crews, or
- Journeyman Powerline Technician or related trade certification, plus a minimum 2 years' experience in resourcing and scheduling services for multiple crews may be considered.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working within the utility industry and/or utility construction and operations, would be an asset.
- Certification or education in scheduling or project management, such as PMI Scheduling Professional, would be an asset.
- Experience with scheduling in a field operation, construction, or asset management environment.
