Summary
The Director, Change Management will activate our vision for an enterprise-wide Change Management Center of Excellence which will partner with project teams and business leaders to build change management capabilities to enable a portfolio of business, technology, and cultural change initiatives. The incumbent will lead a team of internal change experts, and will also assess and manage external change resources, as needed. The incumbent will also strengthen central change management services in support of change initiatives including change methodology, strategic deployment and governance to align, integrate, and sequence change strategies across the portfolio.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
40% - Establish robust center of excellence capabilities and services to scale across NiSource
- Translates strategic vision into action oriented plans to architect, staff and launch a change management Center of Excellence (CoE) to support the overall Ni business
- Partners with business sponsors and project teams to align expectations and clarify roles in change management to ensure a foundation for effective coordination, execution and ongoing capability development.
- Establishes central change management services to provide shared methodology, scalable core tools and techniques, and sets professional standards of excellence and deliverables at each stage of a project lifecycle.
- Defines and launches governance processes to standardize the in-take process to prioritize and dispatch appropriate levels of change management support in alignment with the deployment strategy.
- Launches and drives the continued maturity of a network of internal change agents within the business who can integrate sound change management into the planning and execution of projects
- Assesses the need for external vendor partners to provide the business with additional change resources or expertise
- Develops current and projected inventory of organizational change impacts to influence and advise project teams on timing and sequence of impacts against the broader portfolio.
40% - Provide coaching and advisory support to build change capabilities in the business
- Collaborates with senior stakeholders and project team members to drive the development of change strategies based on the scope of the technical solution(s) being pursued, sizing stakeholder impacts.
- Guides executives and business leaders in the implementation and communication of change plans
- Serves as a subject-matter expert in NiSource's change management methodologies and industry leading change management approaches, practices and processes
- Builds change management capability in the broader NiSource organization by leading development initiatives that result in practical knowledge enhancement and skill building for targeted populations.
- Ensures transformation project sponsors are aligned with the overall direction of transformation projects via engagement in executive level steering bodies.
- Coaches executive change sponsors on how to effectively lead and create adoption of transformation projects.
20% - Mature central change team capabilities and build next generation change CoE leaders
- Leads enterprise wide change management team focused on developing comprehensive change management strategies that include: leadership alignment plans, stakeholder impact analyses, communication plans, training plans and measurement approaches.
- Sets expectations and coaches team members to achieve outcomes as one unified team
- Hires, develops and engages team of organizational change management professionals by providing role clarity and regular performance feedback.
- Sets expectations and coaches team members and vendor partners to achieve outcomes as one unified team
Required Qualifications for Position
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Organizational Behavior or other related field.
- At least 10 years demonstrated experience driving business improvement and/or change in a central or project-based environment
- Significant experience developing change strategies for large scale, complex change projects.
- Experience applying influence and consultative and coaching skills in a matrixed leadership environment
- Proven effectiveness in developing and sustaining collaborative relationships with business partners across a spectrum of teams, leaders and functional teams.
- Experience in a fast paced professional project environment.
- Subject matter expert in organizational change methodologies, tools and approaches.
- Strong leadership and ability to influence others.
- Solid business relationship management skills.
- Project and process management skills.
- High ability to analyze and interpret quantitative and qualitative user impact and acceptance data.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills to frame succinct and compelling executive-level messages.
- Demonstrated capability in developing PowerPoint presentation materials for a broad range of stakeholders, including board and executive-level audiences.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while delivering high quality results in a fast paced environment.
- Strong collaboration skills across a spectrum of teams, leaders and functional areas.
- Must be a self-starter who is extremely organized and detail-oriented, enjoys technology, and can work in a team environment.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word and Excel applications.
- This job requires travel to NiSource facilities for project-based work, up to 25-50% of the time.
