About the Opportunity

This is an open position with Potomac Edison, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp [PO].

Responsibilities include:

  • Demonstrates and directs a solid commitment to all aspects of safety.
  • Develops familiarity with state regulatory requirements for distribution inspection and maintenance.
  • Under direct supervision assists with generating annual PM inspection program package by identifying work to be completed, preparing SAP forms and spreadsheets, and monitoring progress throughout the year.
  • Maintains all PM inspection information and updates orders as necessary.
  • Perform regulatory required safety and security inspections in accordance with established I&M practices.
  • Assists with review and interpretation of reliability data from PowerOn, SAP and the Enterprise Data
  • Warehouse, and apply information to prioritize work.
  • Learns process to respond in a timely manner to customer and commission inquiries concerning reliability and voltage conditions. This may include EMF (Electric and Magnetic Fields), Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) inquiries or short circuit analysis.
  • Under direct supervision manages Distribution Customer Distributed Generation Application Mailbox.
  • Contact and assist customers with proper completion of their applications.
  • Field program capacitors / Monitor Inoperable Equipment Iog for capacitor programming needs.
  • Initiate and track UPR's (Unsatisfactory Performance Report).
  • Maintains a tracking database of all interconnection applications and installations.
  • Monitors the progress of interconnections and prompts the appropriate parties to ensure required timeframes are met.
  • Corresponds regularly with the installers to address issues and answer questions that arise pertaining to their application or installation requirements.
  • Performs technical reviews for all Level 1 interconnection applications to include verifying properly sized equipment and installation meeting COMAR requirements, reviewing one-line diagrams.
  • Provides approval to customer once technical review is satisfactory or works with customer to make modifications as necessary.
  • Directs all Level 2 or higher interconnection applications to the appropriate engineer/designer to complete the technical review.
  • Fields technical questions from customers regarding interconnection requirements throughout the process.
  • Serves as Assists with preparing budget Items (RPA - Request for Project Authorization, ECAT's- Energy Delivery Capital Allocation Tool) for Distribution System Reliability work.
  • Directs all Level 2 or higher interconnection applications to the appropriate engineer/designer to 
  • Serves as liaison to assist Designer and Customer to ensure appropriate applications and agreements are completed.
  • Serves as liaison to assist Customer and Meter Services to initiate Meter Exchange when interconnection is ready.
  • Ensures completion of the interconnection agreement along with providing certificate of completion once the installation has passed all inspections.
  • Initiates regular reports to the Mapping Group to get interconnections mapped into GIS.
  • Monitors the generation interconnection mailbox and responds to customer inquiries.
  • Reviews all WV and MD interconnection applications for completeness and accuracy and works with customer to resolve discrepancies.
  • Provide initial technical evaluation and work with other Company personnel to process and adjudicate these Applications.
  • Under direct supervision, professionally communicates with customers, property owners, architects and
  • engineers.
  • Provides reliable day-to-day support to supervision and other employees on assigned tasks.
  • Provides assistance during emergencies and storm-related activities and travels to various off-site locations as well as office locations, training facilities and customer sites, when requested.
  • Manages time and priorities, and updates management on work in progress.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology or related discipline + 0-1 years of related work experience, OR Associate's degree in Engineering Technology or related discipline + 2-3 years of related work experience, OR High School Diploma (or GED) + 4+ years of related work experience.
    • Related work experience is knowledge of construction and maintenance practices, procedures, work methods, materials, equipment, and tools which would be used to determine the resources necessary to perform construction and maintenance work activities.
  • Current knowledge of National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and National Electric Code (NEC).
  • Understand the Company's Accident Prevention Handbook and practical application in the workplace.
  • Ability to interpret work requests, engineering drawings, schematics, equipment instruction manuals and procedures to develop accurate work plans.
  • Working knowledge of:
    • The purpose, function, and operating characteristics of equipment, and residential, commercial, and utility electrical distribution and control systems
    • Construction methods, maintenance practices, service practices, standards, and procedures
    • Procedures and processes for the acquisition of materials, equipment, and tools
  • Understand and effectively apply legal and regulatory requirements as appropriate.
  • Ability to develop, collect, organize, and analyze information from a variety of sources to develop reports and provide information on backlog and productivity.
  • Professionalism to work with engineer and management personnel, as well as interface and work cooperatively with customers, contractors, and the general public, in a courteous manner that demonstrates FirstEnergy's rules of engagement.
  • Ability to maintain strong working relationships at all levels.
  • Self-motivated and able to multi-task with competing priorities.
  • Ability to provide quality customer service, both internally and externally.
  • Possess solid verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with PC software applications including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc.), Outlook, SAP, geographical information system (GIS), customer request work scheduling (CREWS), power outage reporting system (PowerOn), computer aided drafting (CAD/AutoCAD) and Energy Delivery Outage Application is preferred. Experience with database query tools (Hyperion/BRIO, Business Explorer Analyzer (BEX), Cognos); experience using Visual Basic is a plus.
  • Must have a personal vehicle to commute to various facilities and locations as required and possess a valid driver's license.
