JOB DESCRIPTION
PGE seeks a principal quantitative analyst with energy analytics, quantitative analysis, and fundamentals experience for our front office to support trading strategy and analytics.
This position utilizes your strong technical skills to assist in a wide variety of areas throughout the front office including strategy development, data management, portfolio optimization and tool building.
This individual operates with moderate guidance from the Manager, Trading Strategy and Analytics.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Have a broad background in energy markets, exposure to Western Electricity Coordinating Council footprint with a focus on power and renewables and quantitative analysis experience.

Helps design complex valuation and price models for structured products, including tolling agreements, PPA agreements, load-following deals, shaped products, revenue puts, exotic options (swaptions, basket options, look-back options, heat rate options, etc.), weather derivatives, unit contingency, etc.

Helps develop models such as Value at Risk (VaR), Gross Margin at Risk (GMaR), Potential Future Exposure (PFE), operational risk assessments, back-testing, and scenario frameworks.

Helps propose and implement portfolio and asset optimization frameworks. Builds frameworks for exploring, designing, and deploying systematic portfolio strategies, including generation asset optimization, natural gas storage and transportation optimization, cross-commodity hedge optimization (optimal hedge ratio) and FTR hedging/bidding optimization.

Supports senior leadership and key business partners to understand, quantify and act upon uncertainty in an increasingly complex and data driven business landscape. Translates complex data into compelling and relevant business language. Assesses and communicates cost/benefits and ROI for various decisions, in conjunction with the company's strategy, risk appetite and risk posture.

Can work with the trader teams within Energy Supply Operations in strategy using quantitative analyses, including development of new models, validating and/or enhancing existing models.

Provide other energy-related analysis, including natural gas, power and carbon focused on renewable resources.

Will work with IT to streamline data integration and support process improvement efforts.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS PREFERENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIRED:

Must have an in-depth understanding of the energy industry, particularly with respect to the fundamental drivers of energy commodities of natural gas, renewables.

Typically brings 12 or more years of experience in a quantitative role within the energy industry or directly related academic setting with application in the energy industry. Experience with wholesale power and/or commodities markets and quantitative energy trading experience is strongly preferred.

Have developed expertise in at least one of the following techniques: time series analysis and Monte Carlo simulation, advanced regression and econometric techniques, advanced optimization techniques leveraging commercial solvers.

Have a demonstrated track record of success building quantitative models in R or Python. Bring advanced proficiency in one or more of the following programing languages and experience with:

Experience with Production Cost Models (Aurora, PLEXOS, etc.) is a preferred.

Advanced Microsoft Office Suite skills (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).

Advanced knowledge of multiple business processes in two or more of the following business areas: Corporate finance, T&D, Generation and Operations, Power Supply.

Must possess strong skills in presentation and synthesizing complex concept to present to senior management and executives.

Typically, a four-year degree in finance, mathematics or statistics, data science, economics, engineering, quantitative finance, or science. Advance degree is a preferred.
