NEW CAMPUS In 2025: Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is establishing a new corporate headquarters on a campus setting in the Municipality of Clarington located within the Durham Region. All non-station-based staff (including all individuals in this position) will be relocated to the new office in 2025.

JOB OVERVIEW 

The OPG Professional Trainee Program is an exciting opportunity designed to prepare you for a career in Supply Chain.

During this two-year program, you will have the opportunity to explore different work streams and learn alongside experienced Supply Chain Professionals. You will be provided the support, mentorship and community to learn the business from day one.  Upon completion of this two year program, you will move into your permanent role within the business unit.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES  

  • Respond to vendor inquiries regarding supplier qualification procedures, agreement processes, contract standards, quality assurance programs, etc.
  • Provide assistance to procurement groups on technical matters including proponent list preparation, quality and regulatory requirements, surveillance assignments, acceptance criteria and testing, manufacturing problems, etc.
  • Reviews of contractor's procurement process, including competitive bidding, proposal evaluation, and selection of subcontractors.
  • Act as an information resource to users, requisitioners, and suppliers on the Corporation's procurement processes and commercial considerations. 
  • In all Sourcing Team situations, assemble the appropriate team members, lead the team at appropriate

times to ensure Supply Chain accountabilities are met, and, overall, ensure governance related to Strategic Sourcing Teams is adhered to

  • Participate at site (both generating) daily, weekly, and monthly meetings to plan, coordinate, and status various items and services to support site operations. 
  • Develop a procurement strategy taking into account the marketplace and the needs of the requisitioners and end-users.
  • Review Ontario Power Generation (OPG) approved vendor lists to ensure adequacy for competitive sourcing. 
  • Prepare or review draft and final Request for Quotations, Proposals, Information (RFI, RFQ, RFP), contracts, and purchase order documents ensuring resolution of any areas of concern or ambiguity
  • Evaluate incoming quotes, proposals for vendor exceptions. 
  • Arrange post-award meetings with suppliers and inspection to ensure a clear understanding of contractual responsibilities.
  • Assess vendor performance during the execution of work to ensure contractual requirements are being met and to establish a performance record to be used in the placing of future business. 
  • Within the general context of the job responsibilities, make suggestions to Supervisor on how to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the department, and how to best meet the needs of the customer.
  • Assess Market conditions and available supply base to support the development of category and procurement strategies taking into account the marketplace and the needs of the requisitioners and end-users
  • Where required negotiate contracts taking into consideration the interests of the organization and end-user
  • Administer contracts ensuring contractual obligations are being fulfilled
  • Collecting and analyzing Supplier's quality performance data to determine trends, recommend corrective and preventative actions, and initiate required actions in a timely manner to drive improvement. This includes interfacing with Supplier's quality, technical, and management personnel to identify quality problems and collaboratively developing and implementing solutions, and ensuring that effective corrective action is effectively implemented. Preparing various Supplier performance reports and key performance indicators (KPIs) and Supplier health index metrics. This includes delivering presentations to OPG and Suppliers executives. Developing and implementing mitigation and escalation plans for poor performing Suppliers, including performance reviews with top problematic Suppliers.
  • Performing and documenting supplier assessments. Identification of issues, challenges, risks, and opportunities for performance improvements that may impact the success of a project
  • Perform other duties as required. 

EDUCATION 

  • Graduated anytime between 2021 up to and including Spring 2023 from a 4-year university degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, IT, or other related discipline
  • 70% cGPA (B-) or higher

QUALIFICATIONS 

Preference may be given to candidates who have the following skills and qualifications:

  • Superior analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Willingness to learn, take initiative and trouble-shoot
  • Excellent verbal, written and inter-personal communication skills
  • Project management experience or knowledge through education
  • Organizational and leadership skills
  • Ability to work well both independently and in a team environment
