JOB OVERVIEW 
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Senior Plant Engineer - Mechanical at our Sir Adam Beck Hydro Generating Station, located in Niagara, ON. 

Reporting to the Mechanical Production Technical Supervisor, the Senior Plant Engineer - Mechanical will provide technical advice and guidance on a variety of technical matters within designated area of responsibility for hydro station maintenance, operations, performance, design and commissioning.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Manage mechanical engineering assessments, studies, inspections, investigations, designs, and evaluations for hydro turbine generators, and auxiliary systems associated with hydroelectric generation.
  • Support projects with preparation of technical specifications, proposals, drawings, requests for proposals, design reviews and construction estimates.
  • Provide technical support and consultation in regards to hydroelectric station maintenance, operations, performance, and commissioning.
  • Collaborate with customers, stakeholders, consultants, contractors, and government agencies as required.
  • Support production by providing advice, responding to equipment failures, conducting field investigations, preparing reports, and recommending actions.
  • Develop plans, standards and technical procedures for inspection, maintenance, unit overhauls and asset life management programs.
  • Pre-start health and safety reviews, investigation of safety or technical incidents.
  • Improve equipment reliability through equipment failure reviews, plant health assessments, PM updates and risk reviews.

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • 4 year University Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Unrestricted Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) certification in good standing in the Province of Ontario is an asset.
  • 8 years of relevant experience as a Mechanical Engineer in hydroelectric generation or related relevant industries; consideration will be given to more junior candidates.
  • Experience conducting assessments, testing, studies, inspections, investigations, design, evaluations, construction monitoring & maintenance of mechanical works associated with generating stations.
  • Experience participating in and leading root cause analysis for equipment issues.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills for the purposes of gathering and relaying information, resolving issues of concern.
  • Good organizational and leadership skills, and to be a self-starter who can work both independently and in a team environment that is dedicated to engineering excellence and best practices.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in the work environment and ability to make quick decisions;High integrity, upholding company values including H&S, and protection of the environment;Results and detail oriented individual.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the OH&S Act and Regulations, especially for Industrial Establishments (Ont Reg 851) & Construction (Ont Reg 213) and various codes and standards associated with mechanical engineering and application of their requirements.
