This position can be filled as a Communications Specialist or a Senior Communications Specialist commensurate with the successful candidate's qualifications.
The Communications Specialist/Senior Communications Specialist-Nuclear position will support Dominion Energy's North Anna Power Station providing communications services including but not limited to:
- Prepares news releases, articles, videos for internal or external distribution, executive messages, and other materials about company policy, strategy, events, and projects.
- Understands and stays abreast of issues, both external and internal, that impact company operations.
- Facilitates communication among company management, employees, the public and/or media.
- Identifies issues and leads in developing communication plans for appropriate audience.
- Advises management on communication plans.
- Responds to news media with concise, accurate information about company policies, operations, and projects.
- Provides daily guidance to other departmental staff on complex, communications issues or projects.
- Assists and promotes External Affairs and Corporate Communications programs, including facilitating station tours and visitor center presentations.
- May prepare strategies for securing stories about the company in the media, meeting with executives and employees, and contacting reporters informally.
- Perform other duties as requested or assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
The knowledge, skills, abilities and experiences that are required for entry into this job include the following:
- Senior Communications Specialist 5-10 years corporate communications, stakeholder engagement, media, or related experience. (Note: A Master's degree will count as one year of experience towards the experience requirement).
- Communications Specialist 3-5 years corporate communications, stakeholder engagement, media, or related experience. (Note: A Master's degree will count as one year of experience towards the experience requirement).
- Experience managing complex, communications projects, with budget and time deadlines.
- Demonstrated knowledge of concepts, applications, and theories in public relations, internal communications, news media, news writing, and news judgment.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated initiative and self-direction.
- Strong, verbal communication skills.
- Superior writing and editing skills.
- Ability to work well with others.
- Ability to lead a team, or to work productively within a team.
- Ability to process and respond to information quickly.
- Ability to develop and manage network of contacts, for news gathering and dissemination.
