The opportunity:
Emera's subsidiaries sponsor several pension plans with combined assets of over $3B. The Pension Investments Team resides within Emera's Finance department and provides services to these pension plan sponsoring subsidiaries.
The Pension Investments Team's role consists of advising the various pension committees and boards and carrying out on their behalf the programs pertaining to both the investment of pension plan assets and the administration of the pension plans. This involves working with internal groups and directing external service providers, including investment managers (all assets are externally managed), to ensure the plans and their assets are managed in accordance with pension plan documents and policies, legislation and industry best practices.
As the Senior Analyst, Pension Investments, you will become a key member of Emera's Pension Investments team. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Pension Investments you will work alongside the team's Senior Analyst, Pension Operations and collaborate and consult with external service providers as well as multiple stakeholders across the Emera group of companies.
Accountabilities:
As the Senior Analyst, Pension Investments, your focus will be on the team's investment function. You will be accountable for conducting high quality research, analysis, monitoring and due diligence on the pension plan investments to ensure the team has an in-depth understanding and robust perspectives on investment strategy and implementation.
More specifically, in this role you will:
- Carry out research, monitoring and due diligence on all the pension plan investment managers in accordance with the team's processes;
- Carry out searches for new investment managers;
- Carry out research and analysis, work on projects, and make recommendations to the team pertaining to all facets of the investment management of the pension plans;
- Prepare reporting, analysis and recommendations for the various pension committees and boards.
Occasional travel is required for this role. A typical year would involve roughly 20-25 days of business travel.

Skills, Capabilities, Education and Experience:
As the ideal candidate you recognize yourself in most of the following competencies, and possess or are working towards the desired skills and experience listed below:
- An undergraduate degree in a related field relevant to investment management. Completion of, or enrollment in the CFA program would be considered an asset;
- 5+ years of relevant work experience;
- Previous experience in investment manager research, monitoring and due diligence is strongly preferred. Experience facilitating onsite due diligence meetings with investment managers would be considered an asset;
- Previous experience in some combination of the following is strongly preferred: financial modelling, investment research and/or capital market research, asset-liability studies, portfolio structure reviews;
- Other combinations of related education and experience may be considered.
