Position Purpose

Employee will perform skilled work and assist other line technicians in theconstruction, repair and maintenance of electric distribution andtransmission lines.

Required Education & Experience

1. Employee must meet all general qualifications of employment. 2. Employee must be able to speak, understand, read and write English, and be able to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. 3. Employee must be able to learn to use the tools and equipment required in the work. 4. Employee must be thoroughly familiar with the Company Safety Rules and willingly see that they are enforced. 5. Employee must have a valid state driver's license and pass the Transportation Department's driver's test for operating Company vehicles, including those with manual transmissions. 6. Employee must be willing to work inside and outside under varying weather conditions. 7. Employee must be willing to report as directed to any facility for any shift where needed. 8. Employee must be in good health and be able to perform the physical requirements of the job, which include work at heights and heavy manual labor. 9. Employee must be willing and able to communicate through both verbal and written reports. 10. Employee must be able to learn to make and read simple drawings and sketches. 11. Employee must have demonstrated ability to carry through work assignments, and conduct himself/herself in a manner that encourages cooperation and satisfactory work from others assigned to work with him/her. 12. Employee must have demonstrated proficiency in the ability to perform the duties associated with the lower classification(s) within the line of progression. 13. Employee must be able to lead, direct, and train other employees assigned to work with him/her to obtain satisfactory work results. 14. Employee must be rated qualified for entry into this classification under the Louisville Gas and Electric Company's Employee Performance Review Program and have satisfactorily completed all applicable training and testing programs.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Employee must meet and be proficient in all qualifications of Line Technician "B". 2. Employee must have at least twenty-four (24) months experience as a Line Technician "B" or the equivalent and successfully completed all training and testing programs required in that classification. 3. Employee must be able to take accurate measurements with voltmeter and ammeter. 4. Employee must know and be able to connect all single phase and multi-phase transformer banks to provide standard service voltage. 5. Employee must have a good knowledge of practical electrical principles. 6. Employee must have a thorough knowledge of the Company's electrical construction and maintenance procedures. 7. Employee must know electrical terms and apparatus associated with the Electric Service Delivery Department. 8. Employee must have a proficient knowledge of company substation locations. 9. Employee must know how to install and remove line hose, blankets, and other rubber goods used for work on energized conductors.10. Employee must know how to set up and operate wire stringing equipment, which shall include the installation and removal of stringing blocks, sheaves, etc., for all types of conductors and configurations used on the system. 11. Employee must know how to relocate and rearrange conductors, buss work and other energized connections to provide adequate clearances for the installation of new conductors or devices. 12. Employee must know how to operate all types of switches and load break devices. 13. Employee must know the proper grounding procedures for distribution and transmission facilities within the Electric Service Delivery Department. 14. Employee must know how to set poles in and around energized conductors.

Job Description

GENERAL DUTIES
The normal duties may include but are not limited to: 1. Employee will be knowledgeable of and follow all safety rules, procedures and practices. 2. Employee acting in conjunction with supervision or individually as directed by supervision will assist and/or direct the training of other employees in the correct operating procedures necessary to fully satisfy the classification duties of Line Technician "A" and all lower classifications within the subject line of progression or other duties with which the employee is familiar. 3. Employee will, when directed by supervision, report to assigned locations for the purpose of receiving training and will actively participate in the training activities. 4. Employee will exhibit an adequate competency level pertaining to activities delineated in the Duties and Qualifications sections of this job classification. Demonstrate such competency via performance of job duties and training and testing programs administered at intervals prescribed by Louisville Gas and Electric to assure correct classification of employees. 5. Employee will, during the normal performance of his duties, watch for and promptly report to supervision any damaged or defective equipment or conditions which may cause damage or injury. 6. Employee will perform duties of lower or higher classifications that are incidental to the job and are within his/her capabilities including those needed for the purpose of training in the requirements of the higher classifications. 7. Employee will keep all equipment, tools, materials and work areas in a clean and orderly condition. 8. Employee will report as directed to any facility for any shift where needed. 9. Employee will perform work in a responsible and cooperative manner to facilitate a positive working environment. 10. Employee will represent the Company to the community with attention to the highest standard of conduct, appearance and attitude. SPECIFIC DUTIESDuties which may include, but are not limited to:1. Employee will perform all of the duties required of a Line Technician "B". 2. Employee will interpret and carry out all instructions outlined on construction drawings and blue-prints pertaining to line construction, maintenance and removal. 3. Employee will perform all types of construction, removal, operation, maintenance and repair work on all types and voltages of energized and de-energized lines. 4. Employee will phase out and parallel primary or secondary circuits and power and lighting transformers. 5. Employee will install, remove, operate, maintain and repair all wire, cables, conductors, transformers, regulators, capacitors, re-closer, switches, cutouts, lightning arrestors, insulators, clamps, poles, anchors, guys, pole line hardware and all other devices that are a part of, and necessary to the operation of, the transmission and distribution system.6. Employee will respond to a minimum of 30% call-ins.

Work Conditions

Exposure to heat, cold, wind, rain, etc. as well as exposure to loud noises and traffic. Frequent driving, climbing, and walking.
