General Accountabilities

The Senior Analyst, Contracts reports to the Supervisor, Renewable Energy Contracts who has primary responsibility for coordinating, managing and optimizing all IESO contract obligations relating to renewable energy contracts.  The IESO has executed over 33,000 renewable energy contracts totaling over 6,000 MW.  The Contract Analyst will assist in managing contract issues, be directly accountable for the design of processes and procedures to manage all of the IESO's renewable contract obligations, including but not limited to: verification and validation of any contractual obligations; effective issues management; providing Supplier assistance with Beacon; etc.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement processes and procedures to manage all IESO renewable energy contract obligations
  • Creating, maintaining and enhancing the contract management database for renewable contracts.
  • Complete daily updates to Contract Management Database ensuring information is current and make revisions to database structure as needed by the Renewable Energy Team to effectively manage contracts.
  • Advising on systems and recommend changes in project development tools to support the successful management of renewable energy Contracts.
  • Assist with communications and queries from the IT Team related to Contract Management Database, and IT Database deliverables.
  • Designing and producing reports with a high level of accuracy, routinely and on an ad hoc basis.
  • Effectively manage contract issues by meeting with IESO staff, Crown representatives, respective contract counterparties, and when applicable, external agencies/organizations (e.g., Local Distribution Companies, transmitters, etc.) 
  • Ensure all IESO renewable contract obligations are fulfilled in accordance with approved processes   

Additional duties and responsibilities include:

  • Supporting complex projects within Legal Resources and Corporate Governance, including from time-to-time those outside of Contract Management
  • Providing guidance, advice and support to ensure that contract management processes are effective, efficient, expeditious, and ethical and provides the best possible value to the IESO, Ontario's power system, and Ontario's ratepayers
  • Providing resolution of major issues, particularly those that cross projects or have broad ramifications
  • Acting as the point of contact for Contract Management contract requirements and obligations - will receive, prioritize, coordinate, monitor contract obligations and issues
  • Advising on methods and recommend changes in IESO contract management policies, procedures, standards, processes, and strategies
  • Developing original and creative solutions that meet business needs
  • Seeking opportunities to provide value added solutions for projects
  • Coordinating and monitoring Contract Management logistics and budget

     And other duties or responsibilities as may be assigned.

    Selection Criteria

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree at college or university level (preferably in business, engineering, environmental studies or public administration)
  • 2-5 years of progressive electricity industry experience which preferably would include generation procurement and generation development
  • 2-5 years of experience coordinating logistical and process-oriented projects, which includes project management and project scheduling experience
  • Knowledge of Project Management methodologies with an emphasis on being a self-directed and highly motivated individual
  • Experience with implementation of IT systems and/or tools
  • Knowledge and ability to prepare documents using Excel and Power Point.
  • Must be detail oriented and must be able to handle multiple priorities in a faced-paced environment
  • Electricity industry - a grounding in legal, economic and/or technical aspects of electricity generation and conservation and demand management programs
  • Electricity generation - knowledge of the technical aspects of electricity generation from renewable sources, including wind, solar PV, biogass, and water.
  • Generation contracts - thorough understanding of the various generation contracts used by the IESO for renewable generation, including the rational and importance for each of the various provisions in the contracts.
  • Counterparty focus - demonstrated ability to work with contract counterparties in a challenging environment
  • Ability to work effectively within a group and must be able to effectively coordinate with IESO staff and external stakeholders
  • Project management and project scheduling experience with an emphasis on being a self-directed, highly motivated individual
