As an Associate Forecasting Analyst you will develop econometric and statistical models using accurate, up-to-date databases to forecast gas requirements which support the acquisition of economical, reliable and flexible gas supply, storage, and transportation service for CenterPoint Energy's gas distribution operations. Develop and maintain models that support gas procurement planning activities and make gas flow scheduling recommendations on all upstream pipelines. Prepare analyses and reports on natural gas usage, number of customers, prices, weather, and market information as required for management decision-making.
Specifically, you'll have the opportunity to:
- Prepare statistical forecasts for daily demand, monthly and annual gas usage, regulatory reporting and budget preparation including, but not limited to: Daily Throughput Models, Design Day Forecast, Annual Budget Planning, and Five Year Strategic Planning. Develop appropriate and reasonable forecast tools using econometrics, time series, end-use and advanced frameworks.
- Develop, maintain, enhance and document daily, monthly and annual forecasting models. Test, analyze, document forecast performance, and adjust models as appropriate to ensure forecasts are sufficiently accurate. Ensure forecasting processes and methods are followed and updated as needed. Control and update the forecast reports that will be communicated to senior management.
- Maintain and revise various database series, verifying their consistency with official records. Ensure model data is coordinated, consistent and compatible with the company's SAP System. Update database contents (economic, demographic, weather, price and accounting data) as necessary and appropriate.
- Develop, maintain and utilize computer programs for supply planning purposes, including market data on gas supply and demand, storage, prices, and price basis. Provide analyses to assist in determining appropriate natural gas price hedging products, price levels, and volumes to assure low gas supply price volatility. Use advanced software on gas supply portfolio optimization analyses.
- Apply advanced business intelligent tools (MS Power BI, etc.) to perform data analyses and visualization, obtain meaningful results.
- Fulfill information and reporting requests by identifying and processing the relevant data and represent the results in the most effective form.
- Communicate regularly with other departments to: improve forecasting models, increase knowledge of our markets and customers, and avoid unnecessary database overlap or duplication and to plan on a short term and long term basis.
- Provide data, analyses, and exhibits in support of testimony to ensure the company's position is successfully communicated in rate cases and as needed for other regulatory activities.

Bachelor's Degree
Preferred:
Experience in natural gas forecasting for gas utilities or related regulated energy industry is a plus.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in statistics, economics or related field.
