MISO OVERVIEW
MISO is an essential link in the safe, cost-effective delivery of electric power across all or parts of 15 U.S. states and the Canadian province of Manitoba. As a Regional Transmission Organization, MISO assures consumers of unbiased regional grid management and open access to the transmission facilities under MISO's functional supervision.
We manage one of the world's largest energy markets, clearing billions in gross market charges annually. We use a five-minute commitment process that provides market liquidity and transparent pricing while also minimizing congestion and maximizing efficient energy transmission.
POSITION OVERVIEW
This is a great opportunity to develop transmission plans and reliability assessments to ensure the transmission system meets applicable reliability standards.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform power flow modeling, contingency analysis (steady-state, transient stability, voltage stability, small-signal stability), results management, project review, and compliance reporting
- Perform reliability assessments using compliance processes of the transmission system; to ensure reliability, adequacy, and security, to ensure that long-term customer transmission needs are being met
- Review the transmission plans of MISO's members. Present transmission plans to stakeholders in open and transparent stakeholder process. Collaborate with members and incorporate stakeholder feedback in developing transmission plan for inclusion in the MISO Transmission Expansion Plan (MTEP).
- Support members in moving approved MTEP projects through regulatory processes.
- Perform coordinated transmission planning studies with entities at MISO seams.
- Perform analysis in support of planning related compliance filings.
- Apply power engineering concepts and theories to evaluate and recommend multiple courses of action.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, required
- At least two years of related power system planning or operations experience, required
- Specific experience with PSS/E power flow and MUST applications, preferred
- Knowledge of other power system analysis software, such as TSAT, VSAT, TARA and POM is a plus
- Ability to write computer language scripts to automate processes is a plus
- Previous energy industry experience (preferred)
