Specific supervisory responsibilities will be in the areas of adherence to safe work practices, design and construction standards, and company policies; human performance; workforce productivity; timeliness of work completion; and employee development.  The position will have responsibility for the execution and documentation of work to ensure compliance with OSHA, NERC, environmental and other regulations associated with the construction and maintenance of transmission assets.  Position will also be responsible for administering bargaining unit agreements (where applicable), building a collaborative work environment with all employees, addressing and resolving employee issues, and resolving conflict between employees.

Primary responsibility will be within a specific geographic area within the six state regulated service territory of Duke Energy, but as required work can also be elsewhere either within or outside of Duke's normal service territory.  Voltage levels in the assets within the responsibility of this position are typically 44kV to 765kV.  Large power equipment includes high voltage breakers and transformers ranging in value from $100,000 to $2,000,000 each.  This position will have responsibility and accountability for timely execution of assigned work and adherence to capital and O&M budgets as defined for the supervised work group.

Project scopes may include major substation and transmission line repairs or refurbishment projects including energized work for Transmission Projects, Transmission Maintenance, Company generation plants, and external customers. Restoration of  system outages and response to equipment failures and emergencies. Establishing and maintaining positive customer relations with internal and external customers

This workgroup is "on call" 24/7 for supporting system emergencies/emergent projects. Fosters a culture that values self-reporting of compliance violations/errors/Human Performance events, continuous improvement, and consistency between each area of responsibility. 

Responsibilities

Lead the team of craft performers to ensure reliable and quality service for transmission and distribution served customers and achieve process results.

  • Ensures assigned work is completed according to schedule, maintenance procedures, practices, and in compliance with design and construction standards.
  • Ensures standard work processes are followed by team.
  • Complete field reviews to observe safe work practices, progress, performance, quality and results.
  • Monitors team results to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Initiates actions to ensure objectives are achieved and improvement opportunities are addressed
  • Ensures workgroup is appropriately staffed and supported for 24/7 operations, planned and emerging construction activities.  This includes both individual availability and setting employee expectations. 
  • Maintains responsibility for O&M and capital expenditures to meet or exceed expectations of project budgets and resource estimates, providing timely projection updates and feedback when unavoidable variances occur or are predicted.
