JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, consultative and results driven HR professionals to join our team in the role of Human Resources Business Partner at our Thunder Bay, Ontario location. 

Reporting into the Senior Manager, Human Resources, the Human Resources Business Partner provides strategic advice and operational support to client groups in a wide-range of subjects including labour relations, grievances, talent management and HR programs, etc. The Human Resources Business Partner builds effective business relationships with clients, employees and union representatives and forms strong partnerships with the HR Centers of Expertise (COEs) to deliver value added service and develop business specific HR solutions for leaders and employees.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Partner with the business to achieve its objectives by identifying  issues and by leading the analysis and diagnosis of client needs.
  • Translate business needs into integrated Human Resource solutions and provide strategic advice to leadership. 
  • Provide coaching, consult and collaborate with clients to ensure balance in meeting their business and human capital objectives while aligning HR's functional strategy.
  • Work with line management on collective agreement application and staff relations.  In partnership with Labour Relations CoE, provide interpretation and explanation as to the application of collective agreements
  • Contribute effectively to problem resolution in dealings with line management and union(s)
  • Participate in joint and tripartite meetings and arbitrations 
  • Proactively attempt to successfully resolve complaints before formal grievances are lodged
  • Partner with Talent Management CoE to provide line management with advice and services related to the broad range of talent management activities.
  • Lead the planning and implementation of culture and change initiatives at the client group level.
  • Provide advice and guidance to line managers on HR selection measures, staff planning, hiring, terminations, career planning strategies and operations and performance management issues. 
  • Help reengineer and integrate changes into OPG's culture.
  • Support business transformation projects within Human Resources and throughout assigned 
Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

We are seeking a seasoned human resources professional with a strong labour relations background and the following: 

  • Minimum of 5 years of HR generalist or business partner experience in a unionized environment;
  • Minimum of 5 years of labour relations experience;
  • Sound knowledge of human resources principles and processes;
  • Experience with staff planning, recruitment, internal selection processes and employee development;
  • Knowledge and experience in shaping and maintaining productive relationships and partnership across the business unit / among all stakeholders;
  • It is expected that you have obtained your CHRL, or equivalent HR designation or are working towards this credential;  
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities, adapt to changing priorities and effectively manage change;
  • Ability to effectively lead, influence and motivate others;
  • Broad conceptual, diagnostic and analytical skills; ability to reach well grounded, independent conclusions and influence outcomes;
  • Able to leverage the network of HR functional specialists to deliver results to client groups;
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to hold positive relationships with both internal and external colleagues, be a trusted advisor;
  • Proven track record on delivering results;
  • Valid class G driver's licence;
  • Commitment to high standards of procedural safety and regulatory compliance.
