Tata Power Mumbai Distribution sensitizes 40,000 people directly through its 'Ghar Ghar Me Jan Jagruti Abhiyan'

September 7, 2017

Tata Power, one of India's largest integrated power companies, has been working relentlessly to spread awareness on safety not only at the workplace, but also for the community. In line with this commitment, Tata Power has implemented its Ghar Ghar Me Jan Jagruti Abhiyan' to create safety awareness amongst people living below overhead electricity lines. Tata Power managed to sensitize more than 40,000 people directly through this safety campaign thus ensuring no line tripping or human suffering instances for the fourth year consecutively during festivities like Makar Sankranti and Ganesh festival, where instances of people coming in contact with high tension cables or live wires are at its peak.

Under this unique initiative Tata Power employees visited different locations under high voltage transmission lines to create safety awareness among the community at large. For this activity Tata Power engaged an NGO who has been involved for conducting "Jan Jagruti Campaign" which includes street plays and interaction with women's group and youth. These efforts of Tata Power in spreading consumer and community safety are further intensified during festivals that increase the likelihood of people coming in contact with electricity due to unsafe practices like flying kites under transmission lines, leaving wires open at Ganesh pandals, bursting crackers close to electric stations.

Speaking about this safety initiative, Mr. Ashok Sethi, COO and ED, Tata Power, said, "We, at Tata Power give high importance to safety and wellbeing of all our stakeholders. We are delighted to share that through 'Jan Jagruti Abhiyan' we have managed to achieve no casualties in the last four years during the kite flying and various other festivals. Our campaign which has received an overwhelming response gives us motivation to continue with these awareness drives to spread the safety messages concerning the transmission lines. We are thankful to all the Tata Power employees and volunteers who made this programme a tangible success."

Through the Jan Jagruti Abhiyan, Tata Power also organized special awareness programs during pre-monsoon, Ganapati festival with the objective of reducing electrical accidents that may be caused by unauthorized living in areas which are close to high voltage transmission lines. Due to these efforts of Tata Power there has been a marked improvement in the safety awareness amongst the people living below transmission lines.
