Summary

IT Business Technical Analyst II / III

As an IT Business Technical Analyst II / III, you serve as a critical connection between business operations and technology solutions that support the reliable delivery of power to APS customers. Working within the Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) environment, you help ensure technology solutions are secure, traceable, and aligned with the needs of a highly regulated industry where safety and operational excellence are top priorities. Through collaboration with stakeholders, analysis of business needs, and continuous improvement of technology capabilities, you help support the systems that enable APS to safely and reliably serve the communities that depend on us every day.

What Your Day Would Be Like:

  • Partner with internal customers and operational teams to understand business needs, identify challenges, and deliver technology solutions that support critical utility operations.
  • Work within the ADMS environment to improve system functionality, reliability, integrations, and overall user experience.
  • Gather, analyze, and translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions while ensuring compliance, traceability, and alignment with regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with developers, infrastructure teams, and system experts to design, test, implement, and support business-critical applications and integrations.
  • Use data analysis and reporting tools, including SQL, to investigate issues, identify trends, and recommend process or system improvements.
  • Support a culture of safety, customer focus, and continuous improvement by building strong relationships and delivering solutions that create value for internal and external customers.

Who We're Looking For:

  • Experience bridging business and technology needs through requirements gathering, solution design, testing, and production support.
  • Knowledge of enterprise applications, system integrations, infrastructure concepts, and data analysis, with hands-on experience using SQL queries and integration platforms such as Boomi.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • A customer-centric mindset demonstrated through active listening, curiosity, empathy, and a commitment to understanding and solving business challenges.
  • Ability to work effectively in a highly regulated environment where accuracy, traceability, reliability, and compliance are essential.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to manage competing priorities while supporting mission-critical systems that directly impact operational safety and customer service.

Minimum Requirements

IT Business Technical Analyst II 

  • Bachelors' degree in Information Technology or related field
  • PLUS two (2) year of prior relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.
  • Requires working technical knowledge gained through experience within a job area or system

IT Business Tech Analyst III

  • Bachelors' degree in Information Technology or related field
  • PLUS five  (5) year of prior relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.
  • Requires strong technical knowledge within a job area or system and basic knowledge across related technical areas

Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualifications:

  • Skill in assessing business requirements via interviews, requirements determination using structured techniques for documentation, analysis, evaluation/validation; decomposition of high-level information into details; abstracting low-level information; distinguishing requests vs needs; distinguishing requirements vs. solutions; classifying/ prioritizing requirements; OO techniques using UML models; ambiguity analysis, ensuring consistent understanding across users, designers and testers; business process modeling of current state and desired/future state processes; defining and managing scope and client expectations, requirements change management and traceability; identifying and mitigating risks; applying creativity to solving complex
  • Ability to advocate technology changes that provide value and support APS business goals; meet commitments; foster relationships amongst the business leaders; adapt to technology changes; put systems and procedures in place to assure that all relevant information is shared consistently; organize, prioritize, and plan work activities
  • Apply creative solutions to business problems to ensure business needs are most effectively met; understand and anticipate needs and priorities of both internal and external stakeholders; demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations and streamline work processes.

Major Accountabilities

1) Analyzes moderately complex business problems to be solved with automated systems
2) Assesses client needs utilizing a structured requirements process
3) Acts as a primary technical advisor in identifying and evaluating systems and procedures that are cost effective, efficient, reliable, and meet user requirements
4) Documents requirements, and translates into proper system requirements specifications using high-maturity methods, processes, and tools
5) Assists in configuring system settings and option, and creating specifications for systems to meet business requirements
6) Designs details of basic automated systems
7) Plans and executes unit, integration, and acceptance testing
8) Supports and conducts visualization, user experience, and configuration elements of solution design
9) Analyzes performance metrics to ensure client satisfaction
10) May provide guidance, training, and assistance to entry level Analysts
